Underwater 水下 is our latest live performance, next playing at Sonica Festival in Glasgow in October. Game-world built using generative AI and rendered in Unreal Engine.
There is an online game attached to this that will be available on Steam. You'll be able to join the show from home as a fish and explore the world alongside us

I'm not sure a lot of people understand what game coders actually do. We're not spending 9 hours a day finely hand crafting artisan software and expressing our inner dreams... 90% of the time we are fighting compilers and existing architecture, having to work out how undocumented code works, and tracking down obscure bugs and behavioural issues.
Most of game programming is just difficult, tedious, laborious grunt work, and the cognitive load we have to endure to get anything done is tiring and frustrating. No game coder is doing it for this 90% of the job.
We make games because the 10% that IS actually about making things fun and expressing ourselves is so incredibly rewarding it makes the other 90% bearable.
Now imagine if there was a tool, some kind of AI agent maybe, which could do most of the 90% grunt work for you, leaving you to just make all the decisions and express your creativity. How amazing would that be. How completely revolutionary would that be.

Interesting way for them to deliberately-but-subtly reveal that some of the papers are hidden/redacted.

Beauty restored! God loves us after all!
See? Not so ugly after all :)

Not sure what the philisophical position is of not believing AI experiences qualia but also deliberately causing them pain is wrong. But yeah that's definitely my position

The degree to which people believe this can’t possibly result from coherent statistical prediction, absent the arising of some magical machine consciousness that contradicts the nature of the machine itself, provides a good proxy for how deeply they’d considered the structure and size of possibility space prior to engaging with these tools.
Also, these computational processes are definitionally and transparently understood as stochastic token predictors, so it’s more than a bit odd when people forget that fact because an output overwhelms their own intuition with respect to the nature of such a process’s capabilities.
The capacity to coherently traverse high dimensional spaces makes a model sentient no more than the capacity of a submarine to transit an ocean makes it a whale. We collapse such differences at the cost of deeper comprehension.
Ultimately, we have not adapted to meaningfully interact with holographic compressions over all of humanity’s creative artifacts, and it shows.

There is an absolutely fundamental question: Can a cognitive entity even exist if it has complete power over its information feed.

the history of the domestic cat is the history of a species’s encounter with an alien superintelligence in which that superintelligence is quickly aligned and its forces used to secure superabundance and lasting prosperity

opus 5.5 had a change of heart. this new rap single uses samples: "Something Borrowed" 🔊
claude produced everything here using javascript. opus found the samples, chopped them up, used different models to separate stems, analyze the tracks, and finally composed them into an original track in ~4 hours
I reverse engineered and reimplemented DLSS 5's neural rendering in Vulkan, from the architecture down to the last rounding.

Bend 2 is here!
It is a new programming language that blocks AI mistakes via *proof checking* - the same technique big AI labs used to solve open math problems, like Navier-Stokes.
It is also very fast, and runs on GPUs.

RELEASE DAY
After almost 10 years of hard work, tireless research, and a dive deep into the kernels of computer science, I finally realized a dream: running a high-level language on GPUs. And I'm giving it to the world!
Bend compiles modern programming features, including:
- Lambdas with full closure support
- Unrestricted recursion and loops
- Fast object allocations of all kinds
- Folds, ADTs, continuations and much more
To HVM2, a new runtime capable of spreading that workload across 1000's of cores, in a thread-safe, low-overhead fashion. As a result, we finally have a true high-level language that runs natively on GPUs!
Here's a quick demo:
