Ethiopia’s "Made in Ethiopia" manufacturing and industrial revival campaign has successfully rehabilitated 1,115 shuttered and underperforming factories while creating 1.58 million jobs across the country between 2021 and 2025, according to official economic performance data. The initiative, launched to boost domestic manufacturing capacity, streamline supply chains, and mitigate severe foreign currency shortages, generated an estimated $5.96 billion in import-substitution production over the four-year period. Building on these gains, #Ethiopia’s Ministry of Industry announced that the next phase of the campaign will shift focus toward expanding industrial exports, constructing new production capacity, and modernizing support services across key manufacturing corridors. Recent geopolitical vulnerabilities and maritime disruptions along key global shipping choke points, most notably in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, have underscored the extreme economic exposure African nations face due to over-reliance on imported essential goods and volatile global supply chains. Soaring freight insurance, delayed cargo transits, and international price shocks have routinely translated into domestic inflation and severe shortages across the continent. To tackle its pressing structural challenges, most notably a youth unemployment rate exceeding 60% and a heavy reliance on imported consumer goods, #Somaliland can strategically adapt and scale this industrial revival model to build long-term economic resilience. Beyond generating tens of thousands of sustainable jobs for young graduates and skilled laborers, this initiative would systematically reduce Somaliland's trade deficit, conserve scarce foreign exchange reserves, stabilize local food and commodity prices against global supply-chain shocks, and build an expanded tax base to fund essential public infrastructure.

India’s exports hit $259.9B (+18.5%). 🇮🇳➡️🌐 The real story is the quiet realignment of India’s trade map: • ASEAN: $23.08B (+56%). • Africa: $26.19B (+47%) → now 1 in every 8 export dollars. • North-East Asia: $21.03B (+37%) East Africa nearly doubled (+94%). India is de-risking from tariff volatility while building higher-complexity manufacturing muscle. 2/ The new growth corridors are clear. ASEAN leading the surge. Africa’s share jumping from 9.7% → 12.2% in a single year. North-East Asia steady at +37%. 3/ East Africa Breakout: Surged 94% to $8.95B, delivering nearly half of India’s total gains across the continent. ₹3,300 crore. 6 million chips/day. $31M (₹300 Cr) FY27 revenue target. 𓇲🇮🇳 Fabs take half a decade to pour silicon. Advanced packaging delivers commercial cash flow in months. 🌐 Kaynes Technology’s pivot from EMS into OSAT is an inflection point for India’s semiconductor roadmap: • Commercial velocity: Sanand plant targeting ₹300 crore by FY27, focused on automotive, industrial power, and EV. • Scale: Capacity to process 6 million chips per day under ISM 1.0. • The foreign tech reality: CEO Raghu Panicker’s candid assessment: climbing from standard assembly to advanced packaging requires technology transfers and tier-1 global equipment partnerships. Three takeaways: 1. OSAT is the pragmatic beachhead: Greenfield fabs dominate headlines. Advanced packaging (heterogeneous integration, multi-chip modules) defines real competitiveness. OSAT delivers yield experience, customer qualification, and revenue without multi-year gestation. 2. Domestic demand de-risks capacity: Unlike pure export hubs, India has captive pull from EV powertrains, smart meters, grid digitization, and industrial automation. 3. Capital is local. Know-how is global: PLI and domestic balance sheets fund the plants. Packaging yields require deep process mastery. Strategic foreign partnerships aren’t a compromise, they compress the learning curve by a decade. Deeptech sovereignty isn’t built in isolation. It’s won by mastering packaging execution and embedding into global supply chains. @kaynes_tech @kaynessemicon @AshwiniVaishnaw @SemiconIndia By @ananta__agarwal #Semiconductors #MakeInIndia #DeepTech #OSAT #ISM Article below...👇

For more than four decades, Robin has been a household name across Kenya and the East African region. From the thread used to knit sweaters to the colourful Maasai shuka, kikoi and baby shawls, its products have become part of our everyday lives. Behind this iconic brand is Nakuru-based Spin Knit Limited, a Kenyan manufacturing success story that demonstrates the potential of local industries to create jobs, build wealth and compete in regional and international markets. Today, I toured the company's factory, which has been in operation for 44 years. With an annual production capacity of 2,200 tonnes and a workforce of 750 employees, Spin Knit has established itself as one of the leading players in the textile and apparel industry. The company has also embraced modern technology, digitisation and energy-efficient production processes to enhance productivity and competitiveness. What is particularly encouraging is that the company undertakes spinning, weaving and knitting locally, demonstrating the value of building strong domestic manufacturing capabilities. Beyond the finished products, this investment sustains hundreds of families, supports other businesses along the value chain and contributes to the growth of our economy. As a Ministry, we remain committed to creating an enabling environment for established manufacturers such as Spin Knit to expand production, access new markets and create more jobs. This includes strengthening the fight against counterfeit products, which undermine legitimate businesses, discourage investment and threaten Kenyan jobs. I commend Directors Jayesh Shah and Yogesh Shah, together with the entire Spin Knit team, for their continued investment in Kenyan manufacturing. @MITIKenya

Africa needs projects that leave capabilities behind. We have the people, the ideas, the resources and increasingly the markets. What remains is to build the connections between them; from research to engineering, engineering to manufacturing, skills to industry, capital to enterprise and products to markets. - @KSHalilu, EVC/CEO, @NASENIHQ naijalens.com/between-invent…

For innovation to transform rural areas at scale, investment must reach the first mile of food systems, where production, markets, finance and institutions meet.   At today’s #WorldFoodDay Global Ceremony at @FAO, IFAD Vice-President @g_mukeshimana reaffirmed that every meal has a first mile, where small-scale food producers decide what to grow, when to plant and how to manage risks, long before food reaches our tables.   From roads and storage to finance, connectivity and skills, IFAD invests in the building blocks that enable innovation to reach more farmers, businesses and communities.   Between 2022 and 2024, IFAD investments helped 49 million people increase their incomes, 39 million improve access to markets and 40 million increase production.   #FinancingTheFirstMile

Hard-currency scarcity is choking the Global South. 💸🚫 India’s answer: rewrite the settlement rails in Rupees. ₹🌐 Speaking on the sidelines of the IMF-World Bank meetings in Bangkok, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman offered partner nations hit by acute forex shortages a practical off-ramp: • Direct Rupee invoicing for essential imports. • Keep critical trade flowing without depleting scarce dollars. This is not ideological de-dollarisation. It is hard-nosed risk management for an economy targeting multi-trillion-dollar external trade. The future of global commerce will not be dominated by one currency. It will be sustained by resilient regional settlement networks. @nsitharaman @IMFNews @WorldBankGroup @PiyushGoyal By @shishirs2 #RupeeTrade #DeDollarisation #GlobalTrade #MakeInIndia

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said Egypt prioritises diplomacy and peaceful solutions in addressing the dispute over Ethiopia’s Grand Renaissance Dam, stressing that these efforts would not come at the expense of Egypt or its people. According to a statement from the presidency’s spokesperson, Sisi said the dam was built following Egypt’s turmoil between 2011 and 2013, which he described as a period of state absence. He added that Egypt had paid a heavy price for the events of 2011.

Clear rules, stronger cooperation and better preparedness can help save lives when disasters overwhelm communities. Yet there is still no comprehensive international treaty setting out how countries should work together to protect people before, during and after disasters. That is why efforts towards a new Treaty on the Protection of Persons in the Event of Disasters matter. Because the world should not wait for the next major disaster to decide how it will work together. Help us spread the word and learn more at earthsmissingtreaty.org
