hey so if dems don't make inroads with iranian voters sooner than later, many will be reliable republicans like cubans but with the added layer of islamophobia. it's already happening

This statement has been released today in response to the recent controversy around the letter that was signed by prominent world intellectuals in support of Iranian political prisoners. The statement has been signed by high-profile union activists, analysts, former political prisoners, intellectuals, and members of the Writers' Association of Iran living inside Iran, as well as scholars, families of political prisoners executed in the 1980s, and artists and intellectuals in exile. For those signatories inside Iran, it takes a lot of courage to join the voices of Iranian dissent in exile, especially under the increasingly repressive circumstances in Iran. Prominent figures such as Saeed Madani, Mohamad Habibi, and others have signed the letter. I urge everyone to read this statement, which echoes the voice of a lot of Iranians who are caught between a brutal war and an unprecedented wave of state repression. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F…

telling that civil liberties advocates are the lead counter perspective to the cheering of lawsuits against tech giants as the be-all-end-all of accountability
Yeah, all I can say about the Meta settlement is …ugh. This is only going to make AGs & other anti-SM zealots even more insufferable, b/c they'll say it proves they were right. And it will encourage more lawsuits that try to circumvent the 1st Amendment & Section 230 by claiming their problems with social media platforms are not about speech but "product design"

This is a big, big deal. When people talk about the necessity of a free press, this is what that's all about.

For years, Israel was using 2,000lb American bombs to kill Gazan refugees in tents. Both the Biden and Trump administrations permitted it. A precedent was set. Now it appears the US is doing the same in Iran. A 2000lb bomb was dropped on a family house in Qeshm, killing a taxi driver (the father), the mother, and a 2-year-old, according to @nytimes. Yes, a taxi driver. And a toddler. And his mother. "The Times found no indication of a military site near the family’s home or any reports of military casualties from the strike." nytimes.com/2026/07/31/world…

This is nuts
The late Sen. Lindsey Graham was even more hawkish on the Iran war than we knew. He strategized with Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu on how to get the U.S. more involved--and Netanyahu was the voice of restraint. He pushed President Trump. He "almost cried" with joy when the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran. And he told a documentary filmmaker that Trump was "jacked" about starting the war: "He loves blowing stuff up." Rubio is saying that U.S. policy is to retaliate disproportionately, and the United States is targeting civilian infrastructure such as power plants and bridges. That comes close to confessing an intent to commit war crimes.
.@SecRubio on Iran: I saw their foreign minister say something about their policy is an eye for an eye. The President's policy is a head for an eye—honestly. That's what it's going to be. They're paying a very heavy price for the things they're doing.

Before we sued him, I used to email Blinken's staff the names of AMERICANS including kids and grandparents trapped in Gaza begging for evacuation assistance. The replies were cold & eventually stopped coming. I had clients who were killed while waiting to exit Gaza. Imagine being killed by bombs your tax dollars paid for. Then, during his last week in office, I had someone hand deliver to Blinken a list of Americans still stuck in Gaza despite seeking the US govt's assistance for a year. He said the incoming administration would take care of it. Ofc, they didn't. Salsabeel, an American mother of 3, remains trapped in Gaza. The Stage Dept refuses to evacuate her kids because they're not American.
I met with Blinken shortly after 10/7-right before I decided to take him to court for failing to stop an unfolding Genocide. He said-and I quote “this will continue to get worse before they get better “, and that “the time isn’t right” to tell Israelis to restrain themselves.
