It took me a while but I wanted to share the main work from Ana MG Marín @amgm_in the lab, exploring how complete genomes can change our view of Mtb diversity accross scales, from global to within host diversity

Finally, short-reads can accurately estimate minority variants; but calling minority variants is messy. We used the patient reference genome for short-read mapping revealing genuine true diversity and that mapping to a common reference genome (eg H37Rv) generate spurious calls.
In summary, taken together with other recent publications, it is time to move forward in Mtb genomics towards long-read sequencing approaches. This is an @ERC_Research funded work together with the @CienciaGob @FundlaCaixa and @GVA_Educacio
