I think it's very interested in the type, for reasons I discuss in my review.

Why is the film so aggressively uninterested in exploring Holmes as a *type* of person? Her relationship to the truth is not original, that's what they sound like. It's specifically modeled on Steve Jobs. The movie thinks she fell out of a coconut tree.

Measuring a theory’s value by its potential for the “reconstitution and liberation” society is an unlettered engagement with it. Should we discount Max Weber because his work hasn’t contributed to some revolutionary struggle?

I have a few thoughts about this. First, WHY are you so obsessed with this?Second, there’s obviously a history of “situated knowledges” being invoked here, so it’s not like this method is all that bizarre. Third, have you read what most psychologists publish? Bro it’s real bad
So by this logic, I can write a report - using cherry picked evidence, uninformed interpretations & vibes - claiming that conservatives are bad sociologists, implying they should not be hired. If it's just for my Dean (though it's made public), it’s all good right? 1/3
New post on Wodtke's response to the Vanderbilt report. Questions of whether ideological scholarship is a problem and what should be done about it must be empirically informed, but they are not empirical questions. Invoking peer review standards is a category error. nextturtledown.substack.com/…

I probably would be harvesting rice if the United States didn't intervene in Vietnam's democratic election, causing a civil war, and ultimately driving my parents out of their country, eventually landing us in the United States, where I studied hard and subequently took your job.

Former Saturday Night Live host Dan Levy has called out Shane Gillis over remarks he made about women during his SNL opening monologue this past weekend.
Levy specifically took issue with a portion of Gillis' monologue in which the comedian described going to the gym and observing that "women just dress like whores now."
Responding in an Instagram Reel, Levy said: "Women wearing short shorts at the gym does not make them whores. It makes the men calling them whores misogynists. There's a difference there. By the way, I've seen more men's nipples at the gym than I've ever seen women showing their bodies off."
"But I'm speechless that something like that can exist on live national television. And to be perfectly honest, more men need to be standing up in opposition to it because it's complacency that has created the environment in which women are sexually assaulted and it's a 'conversation' as opposed to a 'crime.'"
"This is not a women's issue, this is an everybody issue. Because the more that men objectify women in the media, the more that other men see them as objects and treat them as objects. They are not objects. They are superior human beings to men, OK? And I'm sorry if this gets me in trouble with the internet, but fuck."
