A grieving father was once given the chance to paint anything he wanted, and out of all the subjects in the world, he chose to depict the worst night of his life...
It's called The Doctor and it was made by British artist Luke Fildes in 1891. At first it looks like a simple scene: a doctor sits at the bedside of a sick child in a poor cottage, watching over her through the night. The little girl lies on a makeshift bed, two mismatched chairs pushed together. In the shadows behind them, the parents wait, the mother collapsed with her face in her hands, the father standing with one hand on her shoulder, helpless, staring at the doctor for any sign of hope.
Fildes did not invent this scene, he lived it: on Christmas morning in 1877, his own first child, a little boy named Philip, died at the age of one. And through those final terrible hours, a doctor named Gustavus Murray sat with them, watching over the dying boy with a care and devotion that Fildes never forgot.
Years later, the philanthropist Henry Tate commissioned Fildes to paint whatever he wished, no subject, no restrictions, complete freedom. And Fildes chose to go back to this: the sick child, the anguished parents, the doctor keeping his silent vigil, and poured into it everything he had felt as a father watching his son slip away, and everything he had seen in the one man who refused to leave the bedside...
It's a father's grief and a father's gratitude, made permanent.
The artist's other son, also Luke Fildes, wrote in his biography of his father: "Dr Murray became a symbol of professional devotion which would one day inspire the painting. The idea for The Doctor had been on my father's mind ever since Dr Murray watched over Philip."

What people in the West don't understand is that Muslims play the long game politically. Unlike many Christian conservatives, whose political attention span ranges from 2 to 4 years, Muslims think politically in terms of centuries and millennia. Over time, they overwhelm nations with numbers because they're more politically zealous, being motivated by Islam, and not merely the attainment of the political office itself. The political office is only a tool to advance Islam. That's all it is. Unless we in the West, and in America in particular, become motivated by something bigger than allegiance to a political party, what is happening in Great Britain, Sweden, and Germany will almost certainly happen here. Don't be so naive as to think it won't.

Since the promulgation of Nostra Aetate in 1965, Catholics and Jews in the United States have built decades of dialogue and friendship rooted in a shared scriptural heritage. That relationship carries a responsibility: to reject antisemitism in all its forms, to deepen our understanding of Judaism and the Jewish people, and to work so that Jewish communities can live and worship free from hatred and fear.

Man preaching from the Bible is accused of "homophobic and racist" remarks by two officers. They admit they don't know what he said. A third appears and says they are gathering evidence to determine if a hate crime or public order crime has been committed and that it doesn't matter if the words are from the bible.
She says intentions mean nothing and it's how the person listening feels.
This is insanity.

During his 2024 visit to the Catholic University of Leuven, Pope Francis was subjected to a very public dressing down in a speech by Luc Sels, the rector of the college
Francis did not take it lying down, before his trip was over he had said 'abortion is murder', women should not try to be men and referred to abortion laws as 'murderous' and 'criminal'. He even called abortionists 'hitmen'.
Sels had asked Francis publicly if the church would be 'warmer' with women priests, criticised the church on sexuality issues and abuse. The criticism was completely unprecedented for a Catholic University to a pope, with Francis having made the visit to celebrate their 400th anniversary.
Francis was not drawn into an argument, but spent the remainder of his Belgian trip causing absolute havoc in the mainstream media, causing a worldwide meltdown
He visited their sister university UCLouvain the following day and decided to press the nuclear button in front of a hostile crowd, telling them:
'It is terrible when a woman wants to be a man: no, she is a woman, and this is “heavy” and important'
He then mentioned as female roles
'from marriage to motherhood, or from virginity to the service of others and the building up of the kingdom of God'
The speech caused a MELTDOWN among faculty, with the university releasing a statement criticising Francis for his views on femininity
He responded:
'That document was pre-made. It was written in the moment in which I spoke, which is not moral... To masculinise women is not human; it is not Christian.
An exaggerated feminism, which means that women become like chauvinists, does not work. One thing is chauvinism, that does not work; another is feminism, that does not work'
On the topic of abortion, Francis decided to go scorched earth, telling reporters that 'abortion is murder':
'Women. Women have the right to life: to their own lives and the lives of their children. Let us not forget to say this: abortion is murder. Science tells you that within a month of conception, all the organs are already there. A human being is killed. And doctors who engage in this are – permit me to say – hitmen. They are hitmen. This cannot be disputed. A human life is killed. Women have the right to protect life'
Francis announced at Mass during the visit that the beatification cause for King Baudouin had been opened, the king who abdicated rather than support abortion
After visiting his grave, Francis said the abortion laws were 'murderous' and 'criminal'
His intervention came as Belgium considered expanding abortion from 12-18 weeks
So outraged were the politicians, that the Apostolic Nuncio was summoned in the wake of the comments
The visit was the last multi day visit of Pope Francis outside Italy, but it us perhaps a glimpse into the environment that produced the video below
