On Wednesday, 8th April, my wife of thirty two years, Maureen O’Donovan, passed away. I’ve written about it here. Sorry it’s very long but it was a very long marriage. ianssmart.blogspot.com/2020/…

Quite right. Women should not put themselves at risk but management should make it clear any civil servant found to have ignored the law will be summarily dismissed. Someone should ask management if they will do that.
Civil servants have been told not to challenge trans women who wrongly use female lavatories. Guidance published on Thursday states that trans people in Whitehall departments should only use the lavatories and changing rooms of their biological sex, not their gender identity. However, it also warned staff against “confronting” biological men using the wrong facilities, saying it could “amount to unlawful harassment”. 🔗 telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/10…

He’ll say the same every year at their conference until he stands down. And, in his heart, he knows that.
Swinney says independence is "very, very close" without ever explaining how. This is just talk. No strategy. No path.

I appreciate the SNP Leadership and the Scottish political press have a mutual benefit in flogging the independence dead horse but the rest of Scotland has long since moved on.

So I’m in the kitchen and ask my step son if I can throw out the burnt toast he has left next to the toaster. “If you don’t want it” is his reply. As if he thought burnt toast was a delicacy for which I might have a particular penchant.

Frequent reference this morning to “currency, pensions, mortgages” at SNP conference. Some bemoan the lack of answers. Others say answers exist, but are not accessible enough. But nobody talks about the real issue: that the answers are all somewhere between unpalatable and toxic.

Your occasional reminder that the SNP has a far more revolting history of anti Semitism than even the current Greens. And has never repudiated it.

Iran carried out 11 public executions last year. Jeremy protested against precisely none of them.
Televising a public execution is beyond disgusting and barbaric. The death penalty should not exist, let alone be a live-streamed spectacle. This is a grotesque violation of human dignity. We must oppose this - and the death penalty - everywhere. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cmy0…

Boss asks staff to turn up at the office for two days a week, and says they can leave if they don’t like it, provoking uproar and demands for an apology. These people wouldn’t last 5 minutes in a private sector organisation.

Commitment to no compulsory losses is absurd, means you end up buying out your best people with the most options.
EXC: Voluntary redundancy scheme opened today for Band C and senior civil servants Internal comms say the workforce has increased at that level and "resignations and retirements" alone won't reduce numbers Reaffirms commitment to no compulsory losses👇 scotsman.com/news/politics/v…

Seeing these environmentalists in the Green Party genuinely feels like I’m seeing tweets from a lost era Imagine being a Green because you care about bats and stopping developments near you and instead you find yourself surrounded by people who hate Jews
Great to see @RewildingB with a big, powerful stall at #GreenPartyConference. We have to celebrate all of our #biodiversity, large and charismatic and humble and foundational

Don’t always agree with Murdo(!) but on this we are entirely agreed.
The episodes in the new series of #Fauda dramatising the October 7th attacks are both horrific and gripping. Outstanding television @NetflixUK

Violence against women and girls is an epidemic and I have pledged my personal leadership to tackling it - that means listening and driving urgent action across government and society. This morning I will be taking your calls on BBC Radio Scotland on this issue.
