Well done everyone 👏Player development is long term and results are rarely visible immediately. But as we saw last night with Northern Ireland, doing the right things with the right people, does bring success.
Currently, there are 7⃣1⃣players who have come through the IFA JD Academy’s residential and regional programmes attached to professional clubs in England and Scotland. 5⃣1⃣ of these players are on professional contracts, while the remaining 2⃣1⃣are on scholarship deals😎

More young players should adopt this mindset. The best players embrace challenges and find a way!
🚨Myles Lewis-Skelly on his conversation with Thierry Henry that convinced him to stay at Arsenal: 🎙️ Reporter: “Myles, there was a lot of talk about your future. What happened that made you decide to stay at Arsenal ” 🗣️ Myles Lewis-Skelly: “I spoke to Thierry and I told him I was thinking about leaving because I wanted to play more and I wasn’t sure what my pathway at Arsenal looked like. He listened to me and said, ‘Myles, you’re looking at this the wrong way.’ I asked him what he meant. He said, ‘Don’t look at the players ahead of you and ask why they are playing. Look at them and ask yourself what you need to do to make the manager unable to leave you out.’ That stayed with me. Then he told me something I’ll never forget. ‘You’re at Arsenal. You’re not supposed to be comfortable. You’re supposed to compete.’ He said, ‘When I was young, I wanted to play every minute too. But you have to understand that becoming a top player isn’t just about getting minutes. It’s about what you do with the minutes you get.’ Then he looked at me and said, ‘If you leave because you’re afraid of competition, you might get more football somewhere else, but you’ll never know what you could have become here.’ That really hit me. He told me, ‘Stay. Work. Make Mikel Arteta trust you so much that leaving you on the bench becomes difficult for him.’ That was the conversation. I went home and thought about it for a long time. I realised I didn’t actually want to leave Arsenal. I wanted to earn my place. So I stayed. Now every training session feels different. I’m not looking around thinking, ‘Why isn’t it me?’ I’m thinking, ‘What do I have to do so next time it is me?’ And now I’m starting, and Arteta looks at me knowing he has to start me. Thierry didn’t promise me minutes. He gave me a different way of looking at the competition. And that changed everything.”

This is very true. When I think back over the last 20+ years in youth development in 🇨🇦 I am of the same opinion.

😮‍💨🧠 Thierry Henry asked Cesc Fàbregas about the freedom he gives young talents Nico Paz and Martin Baturina at Como. His answer was fascinating: 🗣️ “When I started coaching two or three years ago, I thought I could control everything. I've already accepted that I can't. We just try to help the players as much as possible. There are different types of players. Some need more structure, while others are more talented and can be trusted to express themselves in different ways. I've always felt that the number 10 role is being lost in football. I was lucky enough to play in that position and I believe the role is very important. Sometimes, as coaches, we can be too restrictive with the talent that certain players have. I'm very fortunate to have two extremely talented young players, aged 22 and 23. They still have a long way to go, and our job is to advise them. We show them how the opponent presses, whether they defend man-to-man or in a zone, whether they play with a single defensive midfielder and how that player operates. We explain those dynamics to them and then try to create overloads, superiorities, and spaces so that other players can pose a threat. But, ultimately, it's also about trusting the players.” 👏🧠
▪️✅ 2023: Cesc Fàbregas decided to retire from professional football at Como. ▪️✅ 2024: He helped the club earn promotion to Serie A as an assistant coach. ▪️✅ 2025: He guided Como to a top-10 finish in Serie A as head coach. ▪️✅ May 2026: He led Como to a top-four finish in Serie A, qualifying the club for the Champions League for the first time in their history. ▪️ ✅ September 2026: He won Como’s first-ever Champions League match 4-1 against RB Leipzig. Put some respect on Cesc’s name. ❤️🇪🇸

You’ve got your badges. Not one of them taught you how to coach 1-2-1. Level 1, Level 2, UEFA B — all built around teams. Formations, phases, shape. Then you’re on a pitch with one player for an hour and none of it applies. That’s not a failure on your part. The qualification doesn’t exist. So coaches end up pulling drills off YouTube and hoping they add up to a development plan. They don’t. Drills aren’t a methodology. I’ve spent 24 years building one — in Premier League academies and with players now at the top of the game. Comment 121 and I’ll send you my structure proven to take players to the Premier League

🇪🇸 Trial week in Sevilla. Brian Ramsay (winger/full-back) training with Atlético Central — biggest strength: his dribbling. Biggest adjustment: the one-two touch tempo of Spanish football. This is what our system prepares players for. A New Era of IM Play Pro has begun. Are you next? 👇 @jnrpremleague @MLSNEXTPRO @CPLsoccer @OntarioPLSoccer

Wayne Rooney is one of the most technically accomplished, skilful and successful footballers of all time. Perhaps people should start listening and taking technical training tips from those that actually mastered the ball and their craft! @WayneRooney Was also crafted through playing with the ball, all hours of the day everyday! Players need to live with and love the ball more, it’s a simple message, lost amongst unnecessary complexities in the way at times.
What to Wayne finds out that ‘X coaches’ don’t believe in extras as it doesn’t transfer 🫣

The Art of Turning with the ball⚽️ The Xavi and Iniesta game is an arrival activity or activation that develops the technical ability to turn with the ball and shield this from the opposition player. Suggested for Foundation Phase (7 to 12 years old). Check it out on the video

One of the maddest things I've ever built
If you are a 1-2-1 coach & you want to add a little bit extra to your sessions, then you can use the FootballGPT Technique Analyser to analyse your client's technique & then give them a report on it 5 minutes and you can give that little cherry on top of your existing service.
