Appa always used to pick up and drop people. His side of the family or my mother's, it never mattered. Railway station, bus stand, airport- picking up and dropping off was his thing. I grew up watching him, then joining him on these trips, and somewhere along the way, it became my thing too. For about 25 years now, I've been doing it willingly, out of my own choice. On my wife's side, no one does this. My friends and cousins don't either. They all ask me the same question: "Why the hell are you doing it?" Why take the trouble when people can make their own way, especially in today’s day and age of Uber and Ola? Of course they can. That's never been the point. Appa was doing more than getting people from one place to another. Watching him, I learnt that caring for people could look like going to the station, waiting for a train, or driving someone to the airport. They don't need me to do it. I want to be there. That's yet another part of Appa I've chosen to carry forward.
