I turned 37. Few months back I thought to myself, shit I’m getting older. How much longer can I keep playing football for? So I’ve started retraining as keeper. Reckon that’ll give me another 10ish years. Gonna be a slow process (doing basics of a mid/high dives here).

Honestly sounds better than my idea of the Tinsel Tampon (for the Christmas period).

That’s why newsletters are where it’s at.
Distribution is the only moat left. Also, the state of distribution right now … - Spamming outbound until you get blacklisted - Community marketing across Reddit and other sites until you get banned - SEO clicks disappearing into the AI void - Results from getting listed in AI engines are untrackable. - Get ignored across social media because everyone wants to gorge on memes made by AI - Creators keep raising their prices because brands are desperate for growth. Distribution is a moat if you have some unfair advantage: network effects, an existing customer base, or a one-of-one founder. Without that, you’re just in the trenches like everyone else

We lost a good un. RIP Nick
I’m deeply sad today as so many in the SEO community in the UK, Europe and beyond about the passing of a wonderful member of the search community, excellent friend and wonderful human, @nickwilsdon , with whom we shared so many moments through the years. He was so funny, kind, supportive, smart… what an amazing human. You will be deeply missed, Nick. I can’t still believe you’re gone. You’ll be always remembered… thank you for all the beautiful moments. My deepest condolences to his wife Anna and kids, and his team at Torque Partnership, the awesome consultancy he successfully built and was so proud of. ❤️ whatever you need, I’m here. A big hug in heaven, Nick 🙏 RIP, my friend.

Was looking at importing a classic mini (yeah I know, midlife crisis etc) from the UK to Spain. Unfortunately the importation costs now make it quite expensive. Another Brexit ‘benefit’.

How worried am I about ai? Well last week I did a pool plant operators course. Got to see inside the plant room of a swimming pool at a leisure centre. Much harder than I thought it would be and nice to learn something different tbh.

Yes AI will take all our jobs (eventually). But, if we look at the positives, we won’t have to worry about it as the antibiotic resistant plague will get us before then. So we have lovely, lovely, warm sweet death to look forward to first.
HSBC is planning sweeping job cuts across its UK wealth management business as part of a broader push to use artificial intelligence to serve affluent clients more efficiently, the Financial Times reported, citing people familiar with the matter. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

📚 Reading retreats – Have you been on a reading retreat, book holiday or bookish weekend away? I’m looking to speak to someone about why they went, what the experience was like and why they think these trips are becoming more popular.

Both would involve a short interview about your experience and ideally being happy to provide photos. Stories would be pitched to national and regional media. If either sounds like you ,or you know someone with a good story drop me a DM or email me [email protected]

The only reason the CEOs of these tech monopolies are spending wildly on data centers like they are is because they assume they will be granted an oligopoly that is too big too fail.

Probably gonna move from @beehiiv to @emailoctopus. Only thing is, Beehiiv automatically shares the emails as posts on a website. What’s an easy way I could replace that?
Yo @beehiiv was already too expensive for me, and they’ve now jacked up prices. What alternatives should I be looking at?

In Barcelona it's usually free, but there's limited spaces. So we pay €500 a month, 9am to 3pm, 5 days a week.
My son is 2 years old and goes to nursery 2 days a week. Just paid this months bill - £717.50. WTAF 🤯

Always thought I had a decent immune system, until my daughter started nursery. Gone from being ill once in a couple of years to like 7 times in 12 months.
