Sad that The Shed in Glasgow is closing and even sadder to hear about the mysterious fire that will happen there in 4 months time before it's turned into student flats.

The people touting tickets for @oasis are the same as the #landlord type. Middlemen producing nothing and profiteering.

Most residents are keen to show off their community with visitors, but when tourism wants become the priority for local authorities rather than residents' needs, and people get displaced from their community, residents feel that they have to fight back to rebalance their economy.

Fast food deliveries at ~00:45 and ~01:45 on the same morning. The close door left to slam by the delivery person. Don’t tell me living by an #AirBnB is easy and the customers are as good as neighbours. #edinburgh @Airbnb

@Airbnb landlords in Edinburgh are clearly struggling under the current regulations to get their businesses established.

What folks don't realize re: STRs is that these are untaxed unreported cash cows. Hosts do not STR because they want to meet people & make friends. They do it for the MONEY! & hosts/platforms have no problem breaking any laws or common decency to make their MONEY.

I think I’d have more sympathy for proclaimed legitimate businesses negatively impacted by the STL licence scheme if they also called out the industrial scale conversion of homes to businesses.

The whole concept of Airbnb was hijacked by people looking to make quick money in short term renting (better ‘yield’ than actual tenants)…but these visitors should be staying in hotels and other types of holiday lets designed for it, not taking away homes for longer term renters

“In 2016, we had just under 6,000 apartments listed on Airbnb; today we have almost 14,378,” says mayor of Florence – noting that during that time the average cost of ordinary monthly residential rents had leapt 42%.theguardian.com/world/2023/o…

Just a small number of people and their livelihood in #edinburgh . If you want a liveable city with residents then supporting #STL and #Airbnb is not helpful. #tourism #overtourism .

How Airbnb uses and trains hand picked local hosts around the world to present a skewed picture of their business model in the media. We have shown that #Edinburgh 'superhosts' presented in the media were running businesses outwith the law. #RollOnOct1 thenational.scot/news/238082…

“Short term lets are peoples’ livelihoods” - I understand. If I use a deposit to convert a home to business & quit a job, it’d be my livelihood, too. But, with no meet&greet; contract cleaner & automated booking system, how is it earned? Is “livelihood” deserved? #edinburgh #STL
