Islam uses these physical actions to build mental discipline. When you train your brain to switch your leading foot based on whether you are stepping into a place of impurity or a clean space, you stop living on autopilot. You become fully conscious of your environment.  You also laughed at seeking protection and asking for forgiveness. Do you know that the bathroom is a place of impurity? If yes, then this makes it a natural dwelling environment for Jinns and malevolent unseen entities. When you are in there, you are completely exposed. Therefore, seeking protection before stepping in is a logical shield against these entities while in your most vulnerable state. Even if you look outside Islam, historical records from various ancient cultures and modern parapsychology studies universally agree that dirty spaces harbor negative energies and dark spirits. Why do you think the complete religion (Islam) would not have an etiquette for such places? You ask God for forgiveness because your human gratitude will never match the blessing of a functioning body. Islam is about gratitude and worship to our lord. We can’t thank him enough.
