President Trump’s trade war with Canada assumed economic size would translate into bargaining power. Ottawa’s refusal to back down, and the strain the tariffs are putting on U.S. border states ahead of the midterms, are opening cracks in the administration’s approach, argues expert @edwardalden.
"With Republicans facing tough midterm election races in northern border states that are heavily dependent on trade with Canada, it is the United States that now appears to be backing down by lifting tariffs that are causing too much economic harm. Other countries that will face at least another two years of Trump’s trade bullying, regardless of the midterm outcomes, have much to learn from Canada’s response," he writes.
"Most of the major economies, from Europe to Japan and South Korea, have cut deals with the United States to accept higher tariffs in exchange for some trade peace. Canada stands alone in resisting U.S. demands. But so far, it seems to be standing tall."

Notice how it’s only western countries or allies of America giving all these cryptic warnings to stock up,
My guess is that this is all related to the coming bombing of Iran within two weeks;
There will be some kind of “incident” in multiple major Western economies that they blame on open source Chinese AI swarms, perhaps they will be Grid blackouts.
And then that’s a wrap there; a new kind of post 9/11 environment used to justify expansive regulatory scope.
BREAKING: Australia urges all its citizens to stockpile canned food and bottled water to prepare for emergencies, per Yahoo News Australia.
It comes after the UK urged the public to stock up on three days' worth of supplies amid the growing threat of war last week.
Japan, Germany, Sweden and Norway have also told its citizens to prepare for emergencies.

My coworker takes a full hour for lunch every day, and last week someone told her, "Must be nice."
She walks out at 12:30 and comes back at 1:30. Everyone else eats at their desks with one hand on the mouse.
She didn't argue. She just smiled and said, "It is nice."

So, the EU’s decision to drop the "associate member" title for Canada is a major win for Canadians.
The phrase sparked confusion because that specific title does not officially exist in European law, leading nations like Germany to fiercely oppose it.
To avoid getting trapped in a web of foreign political arguments, leaders wisely swapped the tricky label for a smoother phrase: an "ever closer association."
This change keeps the relationship smooth without losing any of the actual benefits of the partnership.
This setup favours Canada because the true substance of the deal remains EXACTLY the same.
Canada secures an upgraded partnership with Europe to collaborate closely on trade, technology, and global security.
Prime Minister Carney hit the nail on the head by explaining that the specific naming does not matter at all.
What truly counts is the real-world impact on citizens.
This alliance allows Canada to boost its international influence and protect its independence, all while avoiding European red tape.
