This is called "August" in Europe
At Meta you get to take "re-charge" every five years. It's effectively a 1 month sabbatical. Just took mine (after 6+ years). Best perk ever.
I was trying to think the last time I have gone 1 month without a job and I think it was summer after 6th grade. It's been some 25+ years.
I cannot overstate how good it felt.
Anyways, back to building! Tons of cool stuff in the pipeline.
Not that terribly long ago Martyn Ziegler broke the story about the European Super League too.
Kids get giddy about the likes of Ornstein and Romano but that is tabloid nonsense compared to real journalism.
Ziegler is THE most important sports journalist in the world.
Martyn Ziegler deserves a Pulitzer Prize for this. He has saved football. There is no way that Infantino survives now and it's all because Ziegler somehow broke the story. If he allowed Infantino to do this on his own timetable, having the time to have clandestine chats in smokefilled rooms maybe he would have got it through but Ziegler had other ideas and that's journalism. Superb.
Can’t wait for the Twitter breakdown on this!!
Go on @Mike_kim714! Great playing

Here’s Thierry Henry talking more sense about England’s World Cup mentality than some of the English media right now.

Just a reminder that shortly after being appointed president in 2017 that Infantino was instrumental in a major FIFA overhaul that ousted the two independent co-chairmen of the Ethics Committee, Cornel Borbély and Hans-Joachim Eckert. At the time, the committee was actively investigating… Infantino
FIFA President Gianni Infantino:
“I have seen the public comments regarding the decision of the independent FIFA Disciplinary Committee related to the suspension of Folarin Balogun, and I would like to reiterate a fundamental principle of FIFA’s governance.
“FIFA’s judicial bodies are independent. They operate autonomously, apply the FIFA Disciplinary Code, and decide cases based on the applicable regulations and the specific facts before them. Their independence is essential to the credibility and integrity of football, and this must always be respected.
“Yes, I regularly discuss matters related to the FIFA World Cup with the President of the United States, and on this matter, I did receive a call from President Donald Trump, just as I receive calls from heads of state, government officials, football stakeholders and business executives from around the world on many different issues. During our conversation, I explained that there was an ongoing legal process involving FIFA’s independent judicial bodies and that the case would be decided in due course by the competent bodies. That is how FIFA’s system works, and it is a principle that I will always uphold.
“I read the decisions of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee when they are issued. Sometimes I am surprised by them. Sometimes I agree with them, and sometimes I disagree.
“What I always do, however, is respect those decisions and the autonomy of the bodies that make them. Whether we personally like a decision or not is irrelevant. Respect for independent institutions and the rule of law is what protects the integrity of our competitions and the credibility of FIFA at all times.”

Let’s call a spade a spade here:
FIFA wants to help little ol’ USMNT to try and give the team the best shot at advancing in order to keep the average American like you tuned into and consuming all things World Cup.

Didn't think it was possible to replace Sepp Blatter with someone more corrupt, but with Gianni Infantino, FIFA might have actually managed it.

I know this will rub #USMNT fans wrong way, but this reported decision is bullshit.
If you receive a red — controversial or not — you’re suspended for next game.
Suspending the suspension is laughable and automatically puts into question integrity of competition.

BREAKING @TheAthleticFC
Folarin Balogun will be available to play the USMNT’s round of 16 match against Belgium with his one-game red-card ban suspended. Extraordinary development.

England’s next match against Mexico is at the Estadio Azteca - it’s 7,220 feet above sea level. To put that into perspective, it’s still not as high as the away end at Newcastle.

The US ticketing map we’ve all been waiting for. As someone who grew up with the European ethos of sport being for the fans (and sport fulfilling a crucial role in providing social cohesion) turning live sports into expensive money making machines is a thorn in my eye.
