This was a real pleasure and honor, thanks @TheStalwart and @tracyalloway for the opportunity. I hope this strips back some of the mystique of the quant trading world, and adds an interesting element to peoples understanding to the "AI story" we're all living through, that is distinct from LLMs.
NEW ODD LOTS: It’s @iaindunning @tracyalloway and I talk to the head of AI at @weHRTyou. We talk about how a major US market maker actually uses AI, why Al is the right term, predicting stock prices and the electricity bottleneck to doing it better podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…

Hearing some rumors multiple pods at East River Trading and Vesey Street blew up Friday, so much for those quants (source: a mysterious voice shouting from the last bathroom stall at the Lincoln Center AMC)

The only pods blowing up around here are my AirPods as they play the 1993 classic "Shine" by Collective Soul as I sip on this pineapple Truly

The whole movie is basically this Andrew Bird song, and that's great. youtu.be/WIgfHZvo72Q?is=EzuB… A meditation on truth and memory and identity. Occasionally horrifying.

Given the widespread misunderstandings of corporate credit/yields/borrowing I'm seeing the timeline, seems timely to say... @RobinWigg 's "A Fabulous Debt" is out now!

Scaling compute across global sites requires precise, process-level network attribution. In our latest post, Eric breaks down how we combined Linux eBPF kernel tracing, service logs, and hardware counters to map every byte back to the right workflow. Read on HRT Beat: hudsonrivertrading.com/hrtbe…

Some observations on 'autoresearch', in our experience: 1) 'make this thing faster': work wells. 2) 'improve this frontier training run' deeply unimpressive. 3) 'i want to catch up to near frontier' works fine. (2) is obviously the dream, basically = RSI. We don't have that yet, clearly. (1) can at times be (2), although generally its not been for us, so it works (for code not at frontier already). Plus, 'code' easier than 'research', at least easier to posttrain for, so, I think it follows. I do hate drawing the distinction with sharpness though. (3) is pretty useful - straight labor substitution, you could do it yourself since its basically running a playbook, but don't have to. Agents can be helpful for (2) type work too of course, experiment manager on steriods. I guess the quadrillion dollar question is when we cross the line for (2). I think soon enough, although one can make an argument that RLVR is not a great paradigm to get there (but I wouldn't make a big bet against it being enough).

Of course, just to make it very clear, nothing I'm saying here contradicts the reality that we're doing research much faster than a year ago. One clear way is that the friction of going from idea to experiment is radically lower. I have plenty of ideas, so, this is very fun too!

"Not all data is equally valuable" - often yapped about, but Datology have done the work to quantify that and put it into in practice
Today, we’re excited to launch the Datology Curation Studio, customizable frontier data curation for every team training its own models. Data quality is the ultimate compute multiplier, and Curation Studio makes it easy for everyone.

I'm not going to defend The Smith as a culinary experience, but, I will say, there is something to experiencing the chaos and loudness and sheer throughput of The Smith Lincoln Center at noon on a Sunday.

That's a lot of powered land! I'd be interested in a mere 50-200MW if it had permits/no weird gotchas/no tax traps/North America. Seems hard to hit all these when you actually do the DD. But, we're a well-capitalized buyer if you've got it!
Looking for 500MW (minimum 250, max 2GW) of powered land for a PortCo. Company is completely price insensitive and has billions behind it. Ideally electrified shell is already built. I understand everyone wants this, but figured I’d throw it out there!

Great to see @ValsAI so front-and-center in this release - Vals Index is first line in the table!
Gemini is on top of the Vals Index for the first time. Gemini 4 Argon takes the #1 spot on the Vals Index at 68.9%.

My wife has written a 'speculative fiction' novel, printed a few copies, feedback from friends & family has been great. We don't really know what to do next - I'd love a pro to edit it and publish, even if didn't make a cent. Any ideas how to make that happen?

Feel like for maybe first time ever I have a 5 year personal plan I could write down, perhaps with extensions out to 10 years. Simultaneously, I feel like the "world" has become very hard to predict for me on the same time scales. "May you live in interesting times" etc
