Verizon stores seem to be 100% sold out. We're assuming most carrier stores are by now.

Chances are you won't be able to walk into an Apple retail store and get gold at this point as many have only received a few gold models.

Verizon & AT&T have mainly Space Grey with a scarce availability of Silver. Sprint & T-Mobile stores are getting much less per store.
It seems only Apple and some Best Buy stores will be carrying the gold color.
