Gas taxes have generally gone up significantly. California excise tax went from 18.8 to 63.4 cents per gallon over that time. Add to that fees related to cap and trade and other environmental regulations.

Gas went over $4 a gallon for the first time in July of 2008. Oil was around $140 a barrel, eventually going up to $148 in July of 2008. Today, gas was 4.47 a gallon. Today, oil was at $92.60 a gallon. This isn't the war with Iran. We are being gouged. @timburchett @RepTimBurchett
