Today, I was honored to join the Principal Secretary for Correctional Services, Ms. Salome Muhia Beacco, amongst other leaders for a transformative empowerment programme in Gatundu South. In support of this commendable initiative and in my personal capacity, I donated balls to local schools within the community. Investing in youth through sports remains instrumental in shaping character, and inspiring excellence. I remain steadfast in my commitment to leverage our strengths as an instrument for social transformation and holistic youth development across the nation.

A landmark decision by the FIFA Council. Under President Gianni Infantino, FIFA’s move to invest USD 6.35 billion in global football development, with USD 25 million for each of the 211 Member Associations over a 4 year period is a huge win for football. For Member Associations, this is transformational - it means more resources for women and youth football, better infrastructure, capacity building, and long-term projects. This is a big win for every federation and for the future of our game. inside.fifa.com/organisation…

Kenya Prisons once had a formidable football team that competed among the best in the country’s top leagues. It is time to revive that proud legacy. Today, I joined Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Hon. Rebecca Miano, Principal Secretary for Correctional Services, Dr. Salome Muhia-Beacco, among other leaders at the Correctional Service Week 2026 Gala Dinner and Excellence Awards Ceremony in Nairobi. I challenged Kenya Prisons to revive Green Berets Fc team and pledged FKF’s support with football equipment to help bring the team back to life. Football is a powerful tool for nurturing talent, promoting discipline and supporting rehabilitation. FKF is committed to working with stakeholders to restore the proud legacy of Kenya Prisons football and the rehabilitation of inmates through the power of the game. #CSW2026

CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe announces a 33% increase in annual funding to USD 700,000 for each of CAF’s 54 Member Associations, alongside USD 900,000 annually for CAF Zonal Unions. As part of the new structure, each of the CAF Member Association will now receive up to USD 700 000 annually from CAF. CAF Zonal Unions will also now receive USD 900 000 – an increase from the USD 750 000 representing a 20% increase. The announcement represents another significant increase in CAF’s financial support for its Member Associations under the leadership of CAF President Dr Motsepe and the CAF Executive Committee, as part of his commitment to making football in each of Africa’s 54 Member Associations world-class and self-sustaining. In 2021, CAF Member Associations received annual subventions of USD 200,000. This was subsequently doubled to USD 400,000 before increasing to USD 525,000 and now USD 700,000. 🔗 Read more: lnkd.in/evBmKKHa

Today, I paid a courtesy visit to IOM Kenya the International Organization for Migration, the UN agency leading on migration management to explore potential areas of collaboration with the Football Kenya Federation. I held discussions with Ms. Nomagugu Ncube, Chief of Mission, IOM Kenya, Mr. Ethan Way, Monitoring, Evaluation and Risk Management Officer, and Ms. Jennifer Githegi, Senior Associate, Policy and Coordination. Given football's vast reach, we see a great opportunity to raise awareness on human trafficking, safeguard young players from exploitation through fraudulent overseas opportunities, and amplify safe migration messages within our communities. Through a potential partnership, FKF and IOM Kenya seek to harness the power of football as a platform for awareness, prevention and protection.

As we conclude the CAF Strategy Conference, today we delved into the technical heart of the discussions, evaluating Africa's performance at the FIFA World Cup USA, Canada & Mexico 2026, in a session chaired by Arsène Wenger and featuring Africa's leading national team coaches. The central question before us was; how do we prepare and strategize to ensure an African nation wins the FIFA World Cup 2030? For Kenya, this conversation is of strategic importance. As we continue to rebuild The Harambee Stars, the lessons on elite national team preparation, technical development and long-term planning are critical. My engagement here is focused on learning, benchmarking with the continent's best, and strengthening the technical partnerships and support from CAF and FIFA necessary to propel Kenyan football to the World Cup stage.

I joined CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, FIFA President Gianni Infantino and Presidents of the 54 Member Associations for the CAF Strategy Conference in Cabo Verde. The session set a bold objective to elevate football in all Member Associations to world-class standards through targeted investment in national teams, professional and grassroots leagues, youth academies, schools football, technical personnel and stadium infrastructure. This agenda speaks directly to our vision for Kenyan football. It validates our reform agenda and provides a continental framework to professionalize our leagues and invest in youth and infrastructure. It takes time, consistency and tremendous focus to build structures that we shall be proud of as a country. I am leveraging my engagement with CAF and FIFA leadership to ensure Kenya benefits maximally from these initiatives.

The engagement focused on deepening the partnership between WADA and the Government of Kenya in accelerating anti-doping reforms and safeguarding clean sport. His visit is timely and significant as Kenya prepares to host major global events including the 2027 AFCON and the World Athletics Championships in 2029. We reaffirmed our collective commitment to protecting the integrity of sport and the welfare of our athletes. Also present were Sports PS Elijah Mwangi, ADAK Acting CEO Peninah Wahome, Athletics Kenya President Lt. Gen. (Rtd.)
