A sweet homecoming victory: Pendleton Heights 55, Mt. Vernon 20 PENDLETON — A week after suffering their first setback of the season, the Class 5A No. 7 Pendleton Heights Arabians bounced back on homecoming night at John Broughton Field. Scoring on their first two drives, the Arabians (5-1, 2-1 HHC) and junior running back Joel Weaver never surrendered the lead en route to collecting their third straight win, 55-20, against Hoosier Heritage Conference rival Mt. Vernon (2-4, 1-3 HHC). The win marked Pendleton Heights’ first against Mt. Vernon on homecoming night since 2008. Weaver proved to be the catalyst a week after PH lost 38-21 at home against New Palestine. The running back finished with 168 yards and five touchdowns on 17 carries. His longest touchdown run measured 59 yards, which put PH ahead 7-0 to start. Pendleton Heights converted on eight of 10 offensive possessions, including five consecutive in the second half to initiate a running clock with 4:14 left in the game. PH quarterback Brandt Gray completed 15 of 18 passes for 305 yards and two touchdowns.
