It’s time for Oracle to release the JavaScript trademark. JavaScript has become the foundation of modern web development, far beyond any single company's control.
By holding onto this trademark, Oracle perpetuates unnecessary confusion in the developer community. It's time for JavaScript to be free, in name and in practice, so the language can continue to evolve and thrive without artificial barriers.

2️⃣ A chapter of unnecessary detail
A fascinating story about the browser wars. It’s a tale where the User-Agent string takes centre stage, revealing its unpredictable nature and the need for vigilance when relying on it.

Apple will NOT remove PWA support on iOS
🥳🥳🥳🥳
👉This is an official statement form Apple that replaced today the previous excuses published around the removal.
We did it, folks!

🔊 Apple is removing web app features from Safari in the EU, rather than allowing other browsers to have those features on iOS.
Here's a new episode of OTMT with all the details, and what you can do about it:

I really don't get the condescending and scornful comments I get from iOS developers on Apple's decision to kill off PWAs on iOS 17.4
So you think it's not a big deal because you think PWAs are crap anyway?
That's not what this is about.
This is about Apple trying to kill the free distribution of web apps for financial gain.
It's about freedom, stupid.
Do you really want to let Apple decide what apps you can use?
Do you really want to let Apple decide what business you can run online?
Hell, do you even want Apple to decide if you can run an online business AT ALL?
Because THAT is what this is about.
Apple decides what you can charge your customers because you have to pay them 30%.
Apple decides what business you can run because they can kick your app out of the App Store anytime they damn well please.
And if you have a great business, Apple can create their own version of it and kick your app out of the App Store or make sure nobody can find it. They did it before and they'll do it again.
Apple monitors EVERYTHING that happens in your app.
Do you really want your online business to be dependent on Apple?
The App Store doesn't provide security, there are scam apps found in there all the time.
Safari doesn't provide security, it's the least advanced browser of all major ones.
The App Store is a walled garden, erected to keep your apps hostage so Apple can extort money from you.
This is about Apple killing off the only viable alternative to their App Store that's free from financial extortion and arbitrary admission criteria that can kill your business in the blink of an eye.
This is about the freedom to distribute your web apps on the open web.
We shouldn't let a tech company decide if you can do that or not.
But hey, I get it.
You don't have to build an iOS app, right?
You can build just a web app or an Android app, right?
The point is that Apple now has so much power that an online business is not viable if it doesn't work on iOS.
And since Apple has crippled web apps on iOS for decades, the only way to have your online business work properly on iOS is with a native app.
So the point is that you have NO CHOICE.
So you HAVE to be on iOS and the only way to be on iOS is with a native app in the App Store.
And that means you HAVE to let Apple take 30% from you and you HAVE to live with the fact that Apple can end your business by stealing your idea and kicking out your app whenever they please.
And in return, you get no security, no privacy, and no certainty your app will continue to be in business tomorrow.
Because Apple just killed off the only alternative to this.
That's why this IS a big deal.

Apple is breaking iPhone progressive web apps in the EU on purpose. Services like Xbox Cloud Gaming rely on PWAs to bring an app-like experience to iOS, but Apple refuses to do the work to properly comply with the Digital Markets Act theverge.com/2024/2/15/24074…

The technical reasons behind the decision published in the document are childish and it contains many lies.
This was published in the document "Update on apps distributed in the European Union" developer.apple.com/support/…

⚠️Since iOS 17.4 for EU users
1️⃣Apple will DELETE user's data without notice
2️⃣Lot of apps will stop working and there will be no way to access them without update
3️⃣Web Push will stop working; users expecting notifications will never get them
4️⃣Apple breaks the Web platform
