In 2009 the video hit the internet. Before anyone knew who shot it, people online said she had set it up herself for attention. Barrett was caught, pleaded guilty and got 30 months in prison. In 2016 she sued him and the hotel's owner and operator for $75 million. She took the stand and broke down in front of the jury. The hotel's lawyers argued that her career had taken off since the video, and went through her endorsements one by one, Diet Mountain Dew included. That same week, comments on her Instagram still said she staged it. On March 7, 2016 the jury gave her $55 million. Barrett was found 51% at fault. The hotel side was found 49% at fault. She says copies of the video are still being posted. A stranger asked for the room next to a famous woman and the hotel handed it over. She says 1 phone call to her would have stopped all of it.
