When the whole family is at the dinner table, we talk. But when mom’s at work, the kids would rather read their #middlegrade novels than talk to dad. And if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em, right? #kidlit – at Vancouver, British Columbia
I’ve played ~20 years of beer league, but never had a second of formal on-ice instruction in my life. That changed when I went to Buffalo this weekend to hang out with my bro and attend a @wwadulthockey camp. There’s hope for improvement in my game, even in my 50s! 🏒🥅
Today’s the day!
Please join me and others on Nov. 25th, 1-3pm, at @massyartssociety for a very fun, free, family holiday pop-up of readings, authors, books, & more for little kids, middle readers, YA & the people who love them.

I spent Thursday doing 15 CBC radio interviews talking about the CBC story prize. Here's one such interview. Also, according to my household, the way I sound upon learning that I was a finalist for the Giller is how I sound when the Canucks score a goal.

The last time I saw @burstofbeaden, we were at the same ill-fated 2016 election party in Vancouver. He hasn’t been back since, so it was nice to check in with him after his event today. He read from The Skull, a wonderfully spooky tale. Buy the book and check out #VWF2023!
Ready for Event No. 3 at the #VWF2023 with @burstofbeaden! It’s me, 30 other adults, and a ba-zillion kids in here! 😂👏🏽🥳

I received this award over a year ago. Today I finally received the plaque. The Central New York Book Award may not be a leg lamp, but I’m glad my humble little book has received recognition on both sides of the border.
Amazing! Congratulations! Can’t wait to chat about the book at @VanWritersFest in a few weeks!

THREAD:
HENRY: 2006 – 2023
When I was a kid, my parents threw a party once and somebody there claimed to be a fortune teller. The person rubbed a long green thread looped through a ring along people’s wrists, then moved the thread away. How the dangling ring moved after...
5/6: What that fortune teller must have seen in those spectral movements of the ring wasn’t “children,” but “life forms” -- beings to love and be loved by. And in that sense, our family has always been boy-girl-boy. Henry came first after all.
