And what if I also told you that we tried this once before and it worked pretty well!
what if, hear me out, you did a deal with Iran wherein they agreed to not pursue a nuclear weapon but rather than just take their word for it you would have weapons inspectors with real access to make sure they were abiding by that commitment. You'd have specific caps on what they could enrich. You'd have real time reporting. You'd cut down their centrifuges and convert other sites to alternative purposes. Yes, you'd have to give them something in return. Maybe sanctions relief. But you could always snap it back in place if they did something wrong. Just a thought for the Trump team at this tricky moment.

Republicans don’t give a damn about the cost of living crisis. That’s why they are partying in Dallas with their billionaire donors while everyday Americans are drowning in this economy. Help is on the way.

since becoming president again, Trump has promised: -$5000 stimulus checks via "DOGE dividend" -$2000 stimulus checks via "tariff dividend" -$1000+ checks via "savings" from expiring ACA subsidies -$5000 "dividend" if Rs win midterms no checks have been issued
Trump: "If the Republicans win the House of Representatives and the United States Senate...I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5,000."

YEAH...NOT GOOD!
Bloomberg: The US government sold 30-year bonds at the highest interest rate in a quarter of a century, reflecting a relentless selloff that’s stirred speculation the nation will tilt borrowing further toward short-dated maturities. The yield at the $25 billion sale Thursday came in at 5.216%, the most since 2001, even as a drop in oil prices fueled a rally in secondary-market trading.

Stop reporting on prediction markets. I beg of you. They had Hong as an absolute sure thing until an hour ago. It's ill informed vibes and reporters should treat it as such.

This whole thread is worth your time.
Replying to @Brad_Setser
Bottom line -- the 2025 tariffs shuffled the location of final assembly around rather than really reducing trade (at least in most goods), and the US trade deficit is rising again on a bigger fiscal deficit, AI demand and somewhat reduced/ more stable tariffs 10/10

Couple thoughts on #MISen primary: With a closer than expected dem primary, there will be A LOT of noise writing off El-Sayed if he wins. But don't forget, Trump is DEEPLY unpopular in Michigan and he'll be a huge anchor dragging down Mike Rogers.

We've seen that Dems across the spectrum who have the discipline to stay laser focused on the economy and tackling rising costs can win. Mike Rogers will have to own Trump's economy and it's up to the nominee to make that happen.

If you went through ‘06 cycle, this year feels like déjà vu. In ‘06 at this point, W. Bush approve = 37%. Trump at 38%. Generic ballot in Sept. of ‘06: D+6.5, Generic Ballot now: D+6.5 In both years: Unpopular war, Members mired in sex scandals. (Sherwood, Foley then; Miller, Mills now).

The cost of this war is astonishing and we know very little about it. Munitions spent. Damage to bases. Cost of deployments. Injuries to service-members. Taxpayer price tag will easily reach into hundreds of billions. All to accomplish...what?
EXCLUSIVE: The U.S. has used “virtually all” of its precision strike missiles during the war in Iran. Stockpiles on ATACMs and Precision Strike Missiles are almost depleted. And we have used about half of our Tomahawks, per new data circulating inside the admin.

Sen. Murray: Americans have now paid more than $70 billion more on gas since this war began. That is over $550 more per household.

They said it was supposed to be “only the best people…”
The abuse the ex wife of the Maine ICE agent details in NPR interview is horrifying, including a 2022 police report of throwing his 13 year old daughter through a coffee table, a voice mail from last year saying her throat should be cut, and pulling a gun on her in the shower. She questions if ICE runs even a basic background check on recruits.
