I do not understand how you can call yourself a progressive, leftist, or Marxist, but then make apologetic statements for the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This is straight-up imperialism. Putin seeks to annex and subjugate a former colony. His actions are no different from those of emperors and kings of previous centuries.

Latest: Zelenskyy tells reporters over WhatsApp that restrictions on Ukraine's Starlink systems remain. Interceptor drones can't function, logistics and operations hobbled. The maximum speed is 161 kph; "exceeding this limit causes the Starlink connection to cut out completely, resulting in the loss of the drone." He says Ukraine has done tests to determine whether SpaceX is truly facing technical issues, as has been told Kyiv by the US side, or if this is a "deliberate operation... to restrict us, cut us off, and prevent us from defending ourselves and protecting our people, both at the front and among the civilian population." He says Ukraine "sent a couple of vehicles equipped with Starlink terminals into European Union territory." "They moved at speeds exceeding 180kph, and the Starlink systems worked perfectly. We have the relevant logs and evidence to prove this." He adds: "The conclusion is clear: the restrictions are in effect within Ukraine but do not apply within the European Union. In other words, this is a planned operation."

Dear @Alice_Weidel. I think that Russia has "valid security concerns" about a unified Germany. To prevent a war with Russia that Germany can't win, it is time to give East Germany back to Russian control, with you as the New DDR President.
Ukraine has “already lost” the war against Russia, says @Alice_Weidel, co-leader of the Alternative for Germany party, which is leading German opinion polls. She told @zannymb, that Germany should pull the plug on support for Ukraine against Vladimir Putin’s invasion. Watch the full interview at 6pm London time (1pm in New York): bit.ly/4yrcX9s

From the moment he walked into the room for our interview it was clear Zelenskyy was done with equivocating & was determined to speak his mind. His allies will fret but this was a bravura display of speaking truth to power With @hallbenjamin ft.com/content/4d79b52f-1f0d… via @ft

America announces an energy ceasefire. Ukraine abides by it. Russia doesn’t. America punishes Ukraine for abiding by the energy ceasefire it announced.

By depriving the defending side of the resources it needs to defend itself, you are not stopping the war. You are turning it into a massacre.

Most of the time, those who say they want to “achieve peace” and “stop killing” make decisions that lead to more killing and more war. Because by making Ukraine defenseless, you don’t satisfy Russia; you make it even more bloodthirsty. We, Ukrainians, want peace. More than anybody else. But we know that we can achieve peace only by depriving Russian aggression of resources, not by depriving Ukrainian defense of resources.

By the end of September, Russia had captured around 730 km² of Ukrainian territory since the beginning of the year – compared with 3,360 km² in 2024 and 4,320 km² in 2025. At the same time, the intensity of fighting on the frontline has increased substantially since May 2026.

a very sober analysis of the war - with Andriy Zagorodnyuk, @Andriypzag ukraineworld.org/en/podcasts… choose your platform: li.sten.to/explaining-ukrain… How can Ukraine protect itself against Russia's ballistic missile threat? What role can Europe play, particularly through joint production? Can Ukraine develop its own anti-ballistic missile? Who is winning this war now?

The human brain is a remarkable, slightly terrifying thing - it can learn to call almost anything normal. 7 days of almost non-stop attacks & as I write, Kyiv is under its 10th air raid today. Yet the whole ecosystem of the capital carries on. Just imagine the willpower that takes.
