I think part of the problem with film criticism ngayon is that we’ve reduced it to “vibes” and “feels,” as if feeling something while watching a movie is equivalent to understanding what it’s doing.

Personal taste tells us what we enjoy while true film criticism asks us why, and what that enjoyment means beyond ourselves. Kasi kung rating ng feelings at extraction ng moral lesson lang ang ending, natin we’re basically writing a GMRC reflection paper sa Letterboxd.

genuine question... is this a private school thing? as someone who grew up watching local tv channels and free tv anime, never ko na-experience ma-bully for being an anime fan. like, is this because rich kids only watch cable channel shows we poor kids do not know?

In the same way that Teleserye was for your moms and ates, Anime was for the kids. Anime programming was designed so that it is timed sa paggising ng bata at pag-uwi mula sa school. GMA’s late 90’s early 2000s primetime WAS anime. We had WeAreAnime Dot Com, and Anime Authority.
