It's not often that an app launches a feature you've been waiting a decade for. But this week, that dream came real. Altmetric has added a timeline for Mendeley readers.
Why does this matter? Timelines are essential to understand "what activities drive engagement and impact".
doi.org/10.1002/asi.23477 - "I'm going to add or read when I add to Mendeley"
doi.org/10.1002/asi.23559 - "Early Mendeley data correlates with future citations"
doi.org/10.1007/s11192-023-0… - "Mendeley reads grow and grow"
doi.org/10.1002/asi.70095 - "Open Access is key to early activity"
We know that when people bookmark research, they intend to read or cite it - and we know that people discover research in increasingly diverse ways.
Altmetric - and #altmetrics - continues to evolve, to support our understanding of what, how and why people read, use and cite.
1/5 My PhD thesis has finally been posted. I spent time looking at #altmetrics and citation rates of #openaccess vs non-oa research. There are several findings: firstly, the 'advantage' is very (very) different per discipline and metric doi.org/10.23912/open_access…
4/5 Fourth. Green is rarer than Gold OA, hasn't grown, narrow disciplinery range, tends to outperform Gold. I wouldn't bother publishing in new/lower Gold journals, personal opinion. Paper in bits on dining room table. tinyurl.com/4vxvaax9 doi.org/10.23912/open_access…
5/5 Bonus post. I think the history of scientific revolutions, and the application of theory are worth a read. Might even raise a chuckle. Download here tinyurl.com/4vxvaax9 doi.org/10.23912/open_access… #fucktrump #fuckmusk Sorry, but won't reply here. Bluesky :)
Two weeks ago, @CarrieBrubaker, @C_Areia recorded a pod for MAPS about 'interesting' research in the pharma space. I picked 2 articles about TB, which kills millions. A new drug nature.com/articles/s41591-0… and @herorats medicalaffairs.org/top-10-mo…
I am continuing to be proud of supporting @herorats and urge people to check out doi.org/10.1186/s12879-024-0… Rats are amazingly fast and accurate when it comes to diagnosing TB

Put simply: If you engage in violent protests, you will face the full force of the law.

I reckon I'll see another referendum in my life time, but it'll be in NI not Scotland @sinnfeinireland
Since I'm writing the follow-up paper, thought I ought to post the last one :) while I wait (and wait) on peer review arxiv.org/abs/2406.10535 Turns out the #oa advantage is super complex (stay tuned for a second paper this summer)
The grief I get for having mildly entertaining titles for my research, and then this... pearl turns up link.springer.com/article/10…
