Why does tirzepatide have a more tolerable gastrointestinal side effect profile than semaglutide? 🤢
GIP agonism coupled with GLP1 receptor agonism decreases gastrointestinal side effects.
🤲 In a study of a long-acting GIP added to liraglutide attenuated GI side effect rates seen with liraglutide alone.
📄 GLP1-induced nausea is mediated in the hindbrain (area postrema). GIP agonism in this region may mitigate GLP1's emetic effect.

Exercise for the Prevention of Weight Regain
1️⃣ Exercise may help mitigate weight regain by increasing energy expenditure and improving energy balance at a lower body weight.
2️⃣ This study tested three exercise levels to assess their impact on weight regain after weight loss.
3️⃣ After 3 months, all groups lost ~9.5 kg. Over 12 months, weight change was +1.1 kg, +3.2 kg, and +2.8 kg in the 150, 225, and 300 min/week groups.
4️⃣ No strong evidence was found between exercise volume and weight regain over 12 months.
5️⃣ Exercise levels below current guidelines, combined with a behavioral intervention, may still help reduce weight regain.
