Continuing our drive to ACTUALLY WRITE DOWN all of the new songs for Placeford and am now completely intoxicated on it.
I think it's now inevitable that this album will ship with an accompanying songbook.
God, I miss arranging stuff* for showbands...

Our new song, Moon, is out on Feb 7.
You can hear it now, if you join our website for free.
This will undoubtedly make us both feel better.
All of our new songs are set in the same town, Placeford.
Here's a reminder of what happened there previously.
This one features a cameo from a special teacher.
Did you have one of those? Mine was a history teacher called Mr Emmett.
One day he said to us something like -
"all this stuff i'm teaching you.
Maybe none of it is true.
It's all just someone's point of view."
Then our young heads exploded.

ALT A blurred figure standing outside a pub. Text reads "Moon, the new song by Hello Midlands out on Feb 7th 2025".
"Exercise for the heart."
I never thought of myself as a despairing guy, but like a lot of you, this last year and fear for the years ahead have tested that assumption.
As always, beautiful words from Gabriel Kahane.

Crikey.
I know this isn't news as such, but the numbers are staggering. Spotify was never part of our plan for financial or creative fulfilment, but even so... That is a LOT of trees falling in the woods.
Previously, from Hello Midlands..
Fearlessly confronting the most taboo issues - 'Branch Line Station' was our song about culture and public transport infrastructure.

I've used lots of tools in 'other' work for years, but not really joined them up with how I've thought about songwriting until recently.
Arend Lee Jessurun has a super-interesting take on using Obsidian for creating a base for their output.
