My once-beloved @SouthwestAir is now just a credit card company masquerading as an airline; the only “winners” with the changes to formerly generous Rapid Rewards program are very heavy SWA credit card spenders. Actual flying business travelers like me with around 40 mostly short-haul SWA flights per year absolutely lose under this new Rapid Rewards system. And loyal SWA customers reliant on new credit card bonus games and similar maneuvers to earn a Companion Pass are now dead in the water. The “enshitifaction” effect is real, and Elliott Investment Management has succeeded in making Southwest Airlines into nothing more than a second-rate wannabe legacy carrier. The last vestige of SWA’s value proposition is that, at least in some markets, it still operates out of more convenient in-town airports like Dallas Love Field, Houston Hobby, and Chicago Midway. But those convenient airports are the only reason I can see to stick with Elliott Air.
RIP to the best deal in travel: Southwest is effectively gutting the Companion Pass - or the best way to earn it, anyway.
Starting Jan. 1, welcome bonuses on new credit cards no longer count toward earning unlimited BOGO flights.
You’ll have to fly Southwest, spend ($140K!) on a Southwest card a year, or some combination of the two.
End of an era.

Want me to math the shit out of you? If climate change was real, no bank would finance a 30 year mortgage within 1000 yards of the ocean. And bankers never lie about money.

I spent my day watching the place I love more than anything in the world be irreversibly destroyed for no reason.
There is not a single logical explanation for what DHS and its contractors are doing to Big Bend. It has become perfectly clear: they are using the destruction of this crown jewel national park as a vehicle to transfer billions of taxpayer dollars into the pockets of these politically connected contractors.
They are sacrificing our public lands so obscenely rich men who have never once set foot here can get even richer. And if they can do it here in Texas' wildest and most beloved national park, they will do it everywhere.

This is *insane.* Even if you are too tired to follow the news you have to understand this. The Louisiana governor has *suspended an active congressional election with 42k votes already cast* — it's insane.
NEW: By the time Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry suspended ongoing elections to give lawmakers time to redraw the state’s congressional map, roughly 42,000 Louisianans already cast their votes — and it’s likely many voted in the House primaries.
Now, their ballots are at risk of being thrown out. democracydocket.com/news-ale…

Ezra Klein is a fucking idiot.
Ezra Klein says the more worried you are about authoritarianism, the more willing you’ve got to be to run pro-life Democrats in red states.
nytimes.com/2025/09/18/opini…

ALT Klein: And the stakes of politics are almost always incredibly high. I think they happen to be higher now. And I do think a lot of what is happening in terms of the structure of the system itself is dangerous. I think that the hour is late in many ways. My view is that a lot of people who embrace alarm don't embrace what I think obviously follows from that alarm, which is the willingness to make strategic and political decisions you find personally discomfiting, even though they are obviously more likely to help you win. Taking political positions that'll make it more likely to win Senate seats in Kansas and Ohio and Missouri. Trying to open your coalition to people you didn't want it open to before. Running pro-life Democrats.

One of the main reasons why many representatives voted yes on SB3 was because the Texas House passed legislation specifically expanding TCUP.
At minimum the Senate needs to expand the program to include:
- Chronic pain and TBI traumatic brain injury
- More license holders
- Prescription by mail
We must get this right.
New: HB 26 (TCUP) draft strips chronic pain, TBI, and other conditions while reducing new licenses from 9 to 3. Passed out of Senate State Affairs last night. #txlege
Comes after #SB3 passed on specific assurances of TCUP expansion.

New draft language for House Bill 46 significantly reduces the bill’s expansion framework, limiting licenses and striking provisions that would create eligibility for chronic pain, traumatic brain injury and other conditions.

I am in full support of expanding the TCUP (compassionate use) program. We will expand licenses and have satellite locations for the first time for prescribed products from doctors for our veterans and those in need.
The TCUP expansion is the latest program designed to help veterans. Additionally, Senate Bill 2308 was passed last week by the House to begin clinical trials for Ibogaine. Texas will be the first state in the country to recognize Ibogaine for a study. Speaker Burrows and I have agreed to invest an unprecedented $50 million in matching grants to begin the Ibogaine trials. #txlege

As a board-certified anesthesiologist trained in chronic pain, I’ve seen the quiet suffering of Texans who are desperate for safe, effective relief.
This session, we can make a real difference.
Texas patients need real medicine, not unregulated hemp THC products sold at gas stations. These products pose serious risks, including overdose and psychosis.
Tomorrow, I’ll introduce a floor substitute to SB 3 to ban these intoxicating products entirely. At the same time, HB 46 will expand the Texas Compassionate Use Program, giving patients access to safe, medically supervised low-THC treatments.
Let’s put the health and safety of Texans first.

More information on the bollards
🧵Bollards, wedge barriers and archer barriers -- New Orleans bought them all in 2017 as part of a $40m public safety package meant to prevent a vehicle attack like ones seen in Nice, Berlin, London, New York and Barcelona, the city's homeland security chief at the time recalls.

Let me put any rumors to rest. At this time we're fine over here @StRoch_Market and we're operating as normal today. There are a lot of @NOPDNews around town trying to piece reality together and we're letting them work, and as always thankful for all they do.
