Honestly if you’re getting banned from Farcaster you’re probably the type of person who would have made that place worth visiting

Canada announces: Telesat, homegrown satellites, will be expanded and Starlink usage will soon be removed.
This is what every country on earth should do asap.

Ok had some time to sleep on this. My problems with the new Balaji rules for Farcaster and why I voted no:
- The consent is coerced. "Not now" and "Vote to leave" both make your account read-only. You either submit or lose your voice in the client you built your audience on.
- It isn't really a vote. Voting to stay means handing the core team the power to rewrite the Network Code whenever they like, with no ongoing say for you. That's closer to a loyalty oath than to democracy, and the onchain NFT makes who signed public and permanent. Plus dangling an NFT to a web3 audience feels like an attempt to buy votes from degens who love minting NFTs.
- The rules reach back in time. The new code applies to your past posts, written before any of these rules existed. I’ve seen countless reports of users being banned already the minute they log back in, from something they said years ago.
- The standards are vague. "Starting or feeding fights," "low-quality posts," "clear hoaxes" and "hyping token prices repeatedly" can stretch to cover almost any dissent. HIGHLY subjective and becomes a kingdom, not a democracy.
- "Rule of code" is mostly marketing. The prompts can change at any time, they admit to "manual judgment calls," and nothing mentions appeals or notice before a penalty.
- Membership is ideological. The app is pitched as a community "for techno-optimists," and people who "don't like the idea of Singapore" are told to leave. That filters people by viewpoint, not conduct. And Singapore is a strange model to pick for speech, given its fake-news law and its record of defamation suits.
I am a proud techno-optimist. But I am also a proud freedom of speech absolutist, and proponent of decentralization.
Calling this approach “techno optimism” feels more like gaslighting and a power trip on Balaji’s part to me.
Update: I just did a deep dive on what is going on with @farcaster_xyz after the @balajis acquisition
Not jumping to conclusions just yet but my initial impression is that this is extremely concerning
I’d welcome a conversation with @balajis to hear him out
More tomorrow

This is actually a great analogy because one actually exists the other is a spectacle for shareholders.
Damn he really is clairvoyant

kind of funny that past owners of fc are applauding balaji's ownership and none of the past employees (aside from myself, who didn't go over to tempo) are saying a word.
what's the matter? afraid you'll get ousted from the "blessed VC circle"?

The new owner of farcaster, @balajis, has banned me from their side of the fork.
Absolutely incredible work.
So anyway, we're doing the hard fork of farcaster and would love to hear name ideas for our non-cancerous side.

Unsurprisingly, I was also restricted on far caster after Balaji bought it
Techno-zionism in action
It's so fucking stupid that now I have to be worried about my data being used against me because @neynarxyz needed to sell a social media protocol to a neoreactionary

FINALLY!
It's been so mind boggling for all these years that public money would be used to fund the development of science and technology but for the public to never receive any of the fruits of it.
For decades economic development has relied on tax breaks and subsidies for the largest corporations, a trickle-down approach that too often falls short.
@NYCMayor and @NYCEDC are charting a new path.
In the first deal of its kind in NYC history, the public is investing $30 million in a quantum lab - in exchange for three board seats and 15% of the revenue generated from technology it creates.
And if any firm coming out of the lab merges, gets acquired, or IPOs, the city gets a payout.
When public dollars are invested, the public should share in the wealth and innovation those investments create.

Wood is the rarest material in the Universe.
SpaceX will capture an asteroid with more gold than Earth's crust and land Optimus robots carrying American flags on Mars within 8 years.
Starship parks Psyche in geosynchronous orbit over an American Pacific atoll. No humans within 50 miles. Optimus robots extract the metals. Delivery to Earth is free though some burns up on entry.
Bezos said 15 years ago Earth gets zoned residential as heavy industry moves to space. Vast distances make emissions irrelevant.
The same fleet lands on Mars in 8 years max. Optimus robots deploy solar panels, batteries, compute, and Starlinks for 4K video before humans arrive.
SpaceX moves the factories off the planet.

If you live outside of Toronto, the Ontario government is blowing $50 million of you tax dollars on ripping bike lanes out of Toronto. This is money that could be spent on keeping your local hospital's ER open or fixing your local school's roof.
