When I moved to Louisiana and started asking people about hurricane preparedness, I repeatedly was told to have board games, snacks, and booze on hand. Needless to say, this is not what I was expecting-- at all.
What's your favorite go to hurricane snack? Asking for the panhandle. 😬

The case for podcast taglines:
If your customer can't repeat your message, you just lost your best salesperson. Make your message repeatable, and watch your word-of-mouth marketing grow.

I'm pro podcasting. On this International @podcastday, I'm grateful for this unique medium and all the wonderful qualities that make podcasts different and special. (AND the people who make podcasts AND the audiences who love podcasts, too.)

Ira Glass, looking at his phone in disbelief: Am I a joke to you?
the reason Chicago doesn't really have a podcast/parasocial microcelebrity thing is teh same reason Chicago doesn't have a Real Housewives

You ask, where should I distribute my product? And I tell you about all the arty, niche, hip, selective places to place your product. Then when I have my own product, I put it in Walmart. This is not a tweet about product placement.

Okay, I am trying to tamp down the crazy and organize some thoughts. - The love podcasters (and podcast listeners) have for podcasts is oversized, and might dwarf what the podcast market/industry actually is - This oversized love can produce starry eyes and rose colored glasses in podcasters where they are more likely to believe optimistic predictions instead of practical realities - Podcasting is relatively small as a form of media compared to other formats - The overwhelming majority of podcasts do not ever reach an audience size where advertising money can be a primary source of revenue. If monetization is a goal, alternative methods must be developed - It is absolutely possible to have a successful show and a small audience - There are plenty of podcasters who know how to use the authority of a podcast to create other business opportunities which ultimately deliver the ROI for having a show - Many people who have been involved in podcasting for a long time recognize the specialness of audio and personally favor audio. These affections lead to championing audio over everything else - YouTube is a behemoth. What you, as a podcaster, choose to do with that information is up to you cc: @JAGPodcastProds @MattCundill @johnnypodcasts
