Find a tree that fits your posture. Sit & use your senses to really ‘know’ the woodland Don’t sit for a minute, sit for an hour. You start to be aware of things that weren’t there before, smells that appear from nowhere, feel leaf and branch debris on your face. 1/3

Bird nests are some of the most impressive examples of natural engineering. Using nothing but their beaks and feet, birds create structures that look almost impossible to design-carefully adapted to their climate, surroundings, and predators. Many of these architectural techniques existed long before humans developed similar building concepts.

On Valentine’s Day 36 years ago, at the request of Carl Sagan, NASA turned Voyager 1's camera back toward home for one last look. From 3.7 billion miles away, it captured this: a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. Here is how Carl Sagan beautifully described it: “Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it, everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor, and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every 'superstar,' every 'supreme leader,' every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there — on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand. It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.”

Very much looking forward to colour sprouting from the garden again, I’m bored of brown and grey. I’ll just keep stitching them from my mind until then! 😉 Here’s some snippets taken from my embroideries, some of them from quite long ago… 🪡🌺🌿🪻🌱🌷🌸 #thesewingsongbird

In Japanese, "tsundoku" means collecting books and letting them pile up, not for neglect, but for the joy of knowing they're there, full of untold stories.

Not sure why I still post on here. Habit I guess? Perhaps the vain hope something beautiful will permeate through the hate? Either way, here’s something new. A fiery sunrise over Elterwater in the Lake District on the last day of 2025. Stay safe in 2026 friends 💙🫶🏻

Every so often I like to share a ‘living’ photograph, so that you can hear and hopefully feel the peace of the scene, as well as see it. This was my view this morning, and I honestly never wanted to leave. If you need 15 seconds of beauty today, turn your sound up and watch the diamonds fall. 📍 Peak District, England © Peaklass, all real, no AI

As the lights go out all over the world, be a shining beacon It is important everyone knows there is still good out there, and where to find it The darker it gets, the more you shine Do not lose your humanity

‘Ocean with David Attenborough’ is released today on the occasion of his 99th birthday and is the most powerful call to action yet by Sir David. Visually stunning and incredibly impactful, delivered with Sir David’s typical warmth, passion and expertise. This is a must see for everyone. #ocean #OceanFilm #DavidAttenborough

"He thought his happiness was complete when, as he meandered aimlessly along, suddenly he stood by the edge of a full-fed river. Never in his life had he seen a river before—this sleek, sinuous, full-bodied animal, chasing and chuckling, gripping things with a gurgle and leaving them with a laugh, to fling itself on fresh playmates that shook themselves free, and were caught and held again. All was a-shake and a-shiver—glints and gleams and sparkles, rustle and swirl, chatter and bubble. The Mole was bewitched, entranced, fascinated. By the side of the river he trotted as one trots, when very small, by the side of a man who holds one spellbound by exciting stories; and when tired at last, he sat on the bank, while the river still chattered on to him, a babbling procession of the best stories in the world, sent from the heart of the earth to be told at last to the insatiable sea." ~ Kenneth Grahame, 'The Wind in the Willows' Illustration by E.H. Shepard.

The villages of the #peakdistrict have no flashy theatres, the roads are frequently blocked by sheep, and the phone reception falls over when you go behind t’ big hill. But you can still find silence easily, breathe in air so fresh you can almost touch it, and walk into views like this. I wouldn’t swap it for the world.

Yesterday morning was the most magical I've witnessed so far this year, bar none. The hills and fields shone with a soft, golden, misty light, the birdsong echoed along the lanes, and I spent hours in awe, grinning my biggest grins. At one point I paused on my walk to admire a particularly lovely tree, as I often do, and a little roe deer walked into the frame and stood in the perfect spot under the boughs. I'm pretty sure she was captivated by how beautiful the world was at that moment too. We exchanged a glance and then both went about our days, with me feeling about as lucky as it's possible to feel. #peakdistrict
