ALT Infographic with text: Heat & Our Neighborhood Environment. We all know that the valleys are hotter than the coast, but have you thought about how your neighborhood features affect how hot it is?

ALT Trees & green spaces cool neighborhoods. Concrete, asphalt, & other hard surfaces make them hotter

ALT Urban Heat islands: UHIs are neighborhoods that are especially hot because roads, sidewalks, and parking lots, and roofs absorb heat during the day and release the heat at night. UHIs have fewer trees and cool spaces to help cool down neighborhoods. Because of LA's history of racism in urban planning, UHIs are predominantly in Communities of Color and low-income communities.
