🩸 When can $AAVE buybacks restart?
Five months after the rsETH bridge exploit they are still off. Here is the whole stack, in ETH, and what it means for the timing.
▸ THE HOLE
152,577 rsETH left the LayerZero lockbox on April 18. At the reference ratio that is 163,183 ETH.
▸ WHAT CAME BACK: 87,955 ETH
Kelp froze 40,373 rsETH, about 43,168 ETH.
The Arbitrum Security Council froze 30,766 ETH.
The hacker position on Aave liquidates for up to 12,323 WETH, the Compound one adds 1,845 WETH.
That leaves about 75,200 ETH to fund.
🎁 DONATIONS: 14,570 ETH
EtherFi, Lido, Ethena, Ink, BGD, Stani and others. A gift, nothing to repay.
🏛 FROM THE TREASURY: 25,000 ETH
Paid by the DAO itself. Not a loan either, just a hole in the balance sheet.
💳 THE LONG LOAN: up to 30,000 ETH
The Mantle credit facility. The Mantle governance puts it at up to 36 months at the Lido staking yield plus 1%. The Aave proposal left the terms to a later publication that never came.
⏳ THE SHORT LOANS: about 44,787 ETH
Easy to miss, and they come first in the queue. The coalition had to place the full 120,015 ETH into the lockbox up front, and that much of it was recoveries not yet liquid: the Arbitrum freeze and the two liquidations. A separate tranche of short duration loans from other partners bridges that window. Who lent it, and on what terms, was never published. Incoming recoveries repay those first, Mantle second.
📉 THE INCOME
Since April 29 the DAO has kept $24.0M of revenue in 144 days, about $167k a day. Gross fees over the same window were $181.2M. That revenue is 41% below the previous 144 days, when it was $40.5M.
🧮 THE ARITHMETIC
30,000 ETH at $2,639 is $79M. Every dollar of @aave revenue pointed at it clears the facility in roughly 15.6 months. The April version of this post ran on $266k a day, where the same facility looked like ten months. The income halved, so the wait got longer, not shorter.
The last AAVE bought into the Aave treasury was on April 19.

Whales bought and locked more $YB in a month than was issued.
Since Aug 1, private holders locked 23.2M YB into veYB and added 0.6M more in their wallets, while team vesting released 13.9M - 1.7x more absorbed than issued.
94% of that lock (21.9M YB) is one owner running two Safes:
0x7954536c96efa3f6634b482031ada8e46a43339c
0x1af3d4b4a0ce2fcdae9d0b52d66add4e021e7633
An OHM, FXN, PEAS whale, same playbook in both: gOHM posted as collateral on Origami, $13.2M USDS borrowed at a 1.75 health rate, and the borrowed cash goes into governance tokens locked until 2030 - 122,538 FXN and 22.1M YB. Rest of the book: PEAS and Pendle YT-apyUSD. No ENS, no DeBank ID, and both bought their YB on CoW before locking it.
Any guesses who this could be? Wink in the comments if it is you.

The buying pressure for $HYPE is getting scary right now:
▫️ETFs just recorded their highest back-to-back daily inflows at $5M+ (last 30days)
▫️$PURR continues buying $HYPE onchain while trading at a ~20% mNAV premium, sitting on $1B+ of uPNL, increasing HYPE/share every quarter, and doing an outstanding job onboarding TradFi
▫️$14–16M in monthly $HYPE buying pressure coming from AQA v2 yield with USDC supply at ATH
▫️Crypto trading volumes likely bottomed
▫️HyperEVM fees at ATH
▫️Builder codes revenue at YTD ATH
▫️Regulatory clarity likely brings more traders, builders and deployers, ultimately leading to an exponentially growing universe of assets, with more competition driving more innovation
And the list goes on...
Triple digits soon. Hyperliquid.
Another $5M inflow day yesterday on the HYPE ETFs, right in line with the thesis laid out in our last piece.
Hyperliquid Strategies' onchain activity also suggests they've been using that mNAV premium to buyback more hyperliquid:native.
In the meantime, a new HIP-3 deployer, Entropy, also launched, consistent with the thesis that with the regulatory overhang gone, the universe of assets, deployers, and builders only expands from here.

Hyperliquid Alpha
A new function showed up on HIP-3 testnet.
Deployers can now set an allowlist for their markets, restricting trading to approved addresses.
Seems like a solid US compliance strategy. A regulated deployer runs KYC'd perps, and Hyperliquid's native books stay exactly as permissionless as they are today.
Is KYC Hyperliquid's Path to the US?
On testnet, a new function was recently added to HIP-3 that allows deployers to set an allowlist for their markets. By adding a star payload, a DEX can restrict trading to approved addresses. In theory, this creates a path for permissioned access to Hyperliquid, which could become particularly important in regulated markets such as the US.
US regulation has been one of Hyperliquid's largest constraints. Under the current framework, retail commodity derivatives generally need to trade on a CFTC-registered designated contract market and clear through a registered derivatives clearing organization, with customer access typically handled by a regulated broker. For this reason, Hyperliquid cannot simply open its existing perpetual markets to US users. Rather than continuing to operate in a regulatory grey area, Hyperliquid has been active in Washington, pushing to modernize these rules and establish a compliant pathway for onchain derivatives, with the longer-term goal of allowing regulated exchanges and brokers to use its market infrastructure.
Still, even if this pathway were approved, questions would remain around how KYC, a necessary part of any US-compliant approach, would be implemented.
Looking at testnet, we believe the answer sits at the HIP-3 deployer level. A compliant deployer could list permissioned markets, conduct KYC, and maintain the allowlist, while regulated brokers route verified users into those markets. These restrictions would apply only to that DEX, allowing Hyperliquid's native markets and other HIP-3 deployments to remain permissionless.
A key concern is that permissioned access would require replicating existing markets, creating liquidity fragmentation that is antithetical to Hyperliquid's liquidity-layer thesis. However, because both markets would exist within the same composable environment, market makers could easily transfer liquidity and hedge between the two.
In fact, the need to redeploy these markets creates a major opportunity for whichever HIP-3 deployer builds the permissioned venue across crypto and RWAs. It is unlikely that TradeXYZ assumes this role, leaving space for a traditional financial institution to capture deployer fees on all KYC flow routed through these markets.
Though nothing is confirmed and the function is testnet-only, we see this as highly constructive for Hyperliquid, particularly given the ongoing regulatory discussions. If Hyperliquid is to house all of finance, some form of regulated access is inevitable. This model could introduce that access without displacing existing permissionless markets, while creating a strong economic incentive for a major regulated institution to take that role.
H/T @rajivpoc for the discovery.

Curve has never changed its emission schedule. It just divides by 2^(1/4) once a year, and has done so five times.
12 Aug 2026 is the sixth: 115.5M to 97.2M CRV per year, 4.81% to 4.04% of supply.

How @yieldbasis is unlocking its next phase of growth, in plain terms:
Since launch, deposits were capped on purpose. Not a limit on demand, a safety measure to keep pressure off the crvUSD peg. After a lot of research, #51 is the fix that lets YB scale.
The idea: a crvUSD strategic reserve.
Start: seeded now from fees recovered out of old, deprecated markets (a stash that was just sitting there, ~37.5k crvUSD).
Ongoing: topped up by a small slice of trading fees, and only above a high-watermark, so LPs always get paid first.
Spend: it stays idle until crvUSD is actually under pressure, then deploys Merkl incentives to defend the peg. Only when needed, funded by fees, not emissions.
The proof: in a 2.4-year backtest, through the worst crash on record, this neutralized ~99% of all crvUSD peg pressure for only ~0.1% of YB TVL per year. A small standing reserve mops up the rest.
Why it matters: with the peg protected this way, Hybrid Vaults become unnecessary. You just deposit BTC or ETH, and the system sources and stabilizes crvUSD itself, so deposit caps can finally lift.

don't do earn vaults unless there are big incentives
don't farm dying protocols
don't give your money to opaque on chain hedge funds
don't lend your stables on aave for yields below rfr
don't do hlp/llp sub 15%, for smaller perp dexes you probably want a lot more
aave/sky/ethena/pendle (maybe maple these days) are s-tier for now but there is no guarantee this will remain in the future
fluid/euler/morpho are a-tier, but only if you know how to use them (hint; be the borrower, not the lender)!
every layer of risk adds to the yield you should demand from your strategies
use a hw wallet, rabby for tx simulations, debank for tracking of your funds, and always be careful what you sign
if you are disciplined with these heuristics you will avoid most defi hacks
the sad part is that there are only like two things right now that pass the screener, defi is pretty dead after 10/10 one shotted alcoin buyers
stay safe out there!
