We have filed a consumer protection suit before the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal concerning the pricing and disclosure practices of Chowdeck Logistics Limited, a major food delivery platform operating in Nigeria.
This action is not an attack on innovation or the right of digital platforms to operate profitably. Rather, it seeks to address a growing concern within Nigeria’s food delivery ecosystem:
The undisclosed transfer of platform and vendor-side costs to consumers through inflated menu prices, layered on top of service and delivery fees, without clear disclosure.
At the heart of the case is a simple question of fairness:
Are consumers being clearly told what they are paying for, and who truly bears the cost of platform–vendor commission arrangements?
The suit invites the Tribunal to clarify whether consumers may lawfully be made to shoulder these private commercial costs (often running into double-digit percentages) while also being charged additional fees and subjected to clauses that attempt to make such charges non-refundable in all circumstances.
This case is brought in the public interest, at a time when food delivery platforms have become part of everyday life and pricing opacity risks normalising unfair consumer exploitation under the guise of convenience.
We commend the Claimant, @pee_dolly1 for choosing to act where many have merely complained. Taking this step requires courage and commitment, and reflects a genuine desire to promote transparency, fairness, and accountability in the digital marketplace.
This suit is not about attacking businesses. It is about setting boundaries and ensuring innovation does not outpace consumer protection.
As the matter is now before the Tribunal, we will refrain from further comment on its merits. We trust the process and believe the outcome will contribute meaningfully to consumer protection jurisprudence in Nigeria.
Consumer rights only become real when someone insists on them.
This case is one such insistence.

“He's a 9, a 10, he's a number 2, number 6, a total player”.

United fans hiding behind Shaw’s injury record to excuse that sequence are conveniently ignoring that Bentancur has suffered multiple severe concussions as well.
Shaw aggressively shoves a guy with a serious brain injury history, then flops immediately Bentancur confronts him.
You can’t initiate a physical confrontation and play the victim to dodge a red card.
Both should’ve walked, the rules are very weak.
I mean, that's just a small head kiss 😂
How's this a Red card to only Bentacur btw??

All you have to do is commit for 6 months.
That's not a lot. It's actually very little.
6 months is 1% of 50 years, and most people can't stick to something that will change the trajectory of their life for 2 weeks.
Robertson aside. The EPL injury rule makes no sense: a player is visibly injured and bleeding, yet his team gets punished by having to play with 10 men.
If VDV was on that pitch, that ball wouldn’t get to the goal scorer.
The $17 billion+ Meta settlement is significant, but the money is not what interests me most. The more important development is that regulation has reached into the architecture of the product itself: change the product.

In my latest piece, I reflect on what this means for technology regulation and, particularly, for Nigeria. Do we always need another bespoke technology law, or should we be doing more to test what our existing consumer protection, child-rights, data protection and other legal...
... principles can already do?
Perhaps the bigger lesson from the Meta settlement is that good laws are only the beginning. They must eventually have consequences.
