💭 Can one theory really explain both the structure of the universe and conscious experience? In response to @DrSueSchneider and Mark Bailey’s target article on superpsychism, Karen Crowther and @heddamorch examine whether this ambitious unification really holds up. Now available in the Journal of Consciousness Studies special issue, their paper raises several key challenges: 1) Prototime may struggle to explain features like the arrow of time 2) Superpsychism does not clearly follow from the physics it builds on 3) It inherits the same core problems facing both materialism and panpsychism The broader takeaway: the Prototime Interpretation (PI) offers an ambitious vision of unification, with both spacetime and consciousness emerging from entanglement. At present, however, important questions remain about how fully it can deliver on its explanatory aims. 👉 Read now in JCS: ingentaconnect.com/contenton… #Superpsychism #Spacetime #Emergence #Consciousness #PhilosophyOfMind #JCS

Next generation of panpsychists (as well as some neutral monists and other adjacents) gathered at summer school in Zagreb; it was a pleasure to be there and meet them all! Too bad I had to leave before the picture was taken..

On a standard view of personal identity, if it weren't for the black plague you (as in precisely this person) most likely wouldn't exist. I used to worry about this as a child and feel bad about it. (however, open individualism fixes this!)
The Black Plague has a 9% approval rating among Americans, so I guess 9% is basically the floor in public opinion.

What could it even mean to say we are all one person when we undeniably have separate minds? Philosopher @heddamorch explores this idea that appears across philosophical traditions nautil.us/is-everyone-the-sa…

Is everyone the same person? My latest in @NautilusMag. This idea appears most famously in Hinduism, as well as with Schopenhauer – and might be the best solution to the riddle of personal identity.

Is Everyone the Same Person? New essay in Nautilus where I argue that this may actually be the case – i.e., defend the view known as open individualism (Kolak) or universalism (Zuboff) about personal identity. nautil.us/is-everyone-the-sa…

Final version of my paper "Does panpsychism mean that 'we are all one'?" is now up on @PhilPapers_CDP: philpapers.org/rec/MRCDPM-2. I defend the view that we are really all the same person (aka open individualism about personal identity) and argue that panpsychism supports it.
