What to do when your cloud provider is breached, from a former cyber insurance adjuster: If your provider just disclosed a breach, you have to assume you've been exposed. And every instinct you have about what to do next is probably wrong. So here's what you should actually do: When you first hear about the hack, even if you doubt you were exposed, you need to get on it. Right away. I don't care if you're on a date, or at your son's college graduation. Get to a computer and start rotating every secret…everything. When someone asks later how fast you responded, you want the answer to be "immediately," with timestamps to prove it. You're going to want to put as little in writing as possible. I get the instinct. Do the opposite. Document everything, obsessively. If your provider has locked things down and you can't rotate something yet, write that down too, with the time you tried. If you're using agents to investigate (and you should be, spread wide across everything), keep every trace and make them write down everything they find. This will feel wrong in your soul. Do it anyway. If this ever turns into a claim, if you can show you did everything you were supposed to, minute by minute, you will survive. You might tell yourself it's just names and emails and nobody cares. But this is wrong. All customer data counts. I've watched companies lose millions just because someone could see data they shouldn't have. You're going to want to wait for your provider to finish investigating before communicating with your own customers. Don't. Figure out what information may have been exposed, even if you’re not sure yet who it belongs to, and what obligations you have under your contracts / applicable law. Your cloud provider’s investigation doesn’t change the fact that you have your own obligations to meet. And learning about a deadline after you’ve missed it is a very expensive lesson. Bookmark this. I hope you never need it, but with everything happening lately, there's a real chance you will.

Websites are files on a computer. When you view a website, you are asking the computer to send you the files, then your browser shows them to you. 70% of the websites you see use PHP to make them interactive. So you can send things to the website too and it can respond. E.g. filling in a comment box and hitting 'post' adds the comment as a row to a spreadsheet. PHP has a flaw in its code that allows anyone to gain control of the computer that has the website on it. The organisation that provides PHP announced the vulnerability before a patch was available, meaning we're in a window where everyone knows about it (including baddies) but the good guys don't have an official solution. Some are just turning off their websites and waiting for the solution. Others are trying to fix it themselves. General chaos and lots of stressed techies across literally the entire planet because this affects the entire internet.

'The Music Room.' (c1980) This is the art of Peter Kelly who specialised in minimal and highly atmospheric interiors. You may well not have heard of him, but when you come across his work, you'll wonder why you haven't.

Anne Carson. “You could whisper down a well. You could write a letter and keep it in a drawer. You could inscribe a curse on a ribbon of lead and bury it in the ground to lie unread for thousands of years. The point is not to find a reader, the point is the telling itself.”

I love her writing advice to writers because it also applies perfectly to psychotherapy and psychoanalysis: “Start in the middle.” *Because, when it comes to mental and emotional life, there is no other possible place to start.
The newly minted Nobel Prize winner Anne Carson shared a book recommendation and some timeless writing advice at the 2024 National Book Awards.

One of the biggest holes in the fake Gaza "genocide" claim: actual military experts say Israel complied with the laws of war. 75 retired US military leaders, including 54 generals, have now confirmed it. The "genocide" narrative relies on academics with zero military expertise.
Breaking: "As retired senior military leaders and legal experts, on this, the third anniversary of Hamas's October 7, 2023 brutal attack on Israel, we reject claims that Israel committed genocide in Gaza." @jinsadc I am honored to be a part of 76 retired U.S. officers (including 13 Generals, 27 Lieutenant Generals, 19 Major Generals, 5 Brigadier Generals) Refuting the Genocide Allegation Against Israel. jinsa.org/wp-content/uploads… "The precedent established today regarding Israel will shape the conditions under which American forces fight tomorrow. Protecting civilians and preserving the ability of our nation to defend itself requires us to defend the truth when the laws of war are being distorted to make false charges of genocide."

Hey @aldiuk tell your CEO that he should be looking into his accounting department as the department obviously does not how to count or use a calendar. While he’s at it; he should figure out how much the company spent sending this letter. I’m sure it more than £97! 🙄
Hey @AldiUK this letter you’ve sent my son is intimidating. You never mentioned to him that he was over paid, threatening him with debt recovery action and asking for immediate payment (on a date 2 weeks before you’ve even sent the letter) is awful. You made the mistake not him.

Imagine if, on the anniversary of Hiroshima, Americans marched past Japanese communities waving American flags and denouncing Japan. Or if Britain chose the anniversary of Dresden to stage victory marches through London. We don’t. Those dates are treated with sensitivity because whatever your view of the wider war, the anniversary of mass civilian death is not the day to celebrate. Yet on 7 October — the anniversary of the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust — demonstrators have deliberately chosen to march through London for the Palestinian cause. They do it, simply, because they are utterly repugnant human beings

Practical layouts—well considered utility with a thoughtful positioning of child + principal bedrooms. Two key changes: I’d create access to a walk-in dressing area + ensuite from within principal bedroom. Add additional WC somewhere.
New apartments in Zurich Two homes per floor means a shallow plan, which is easy to light and cross ventilate. Also interesting to see a generous amount of storage space (which is often welcome in apartments!) By Igual & Guggenheim Architecture

15 years ago today, I stared out of an airplane window in shock at the sight of my city, Seattle. I hadn't slept in 48 hours. It looked unreal, like a model train diorama. When the airplane door opened, I was struck by the smell of trees and rain after four years trapped in a concrete box. /thread
