I’m signing off. See me on the butterfly. Same handle @hdavidrosen.
I’m grateful for the timing of the US election. It’s greatly reduced the number of news articles about the need to abolish Daylight Saving’s Time.

Pediatric Anesthesia Pro Tip #101: Be proud of how we work. Don't let criticisms of "implicit communication" during codes get you down. We work well when we can think and the people around us have a similar mental model. Not all critical situations require lots of noise. Breathe.
Blown away by the stunning images of Nunavut and the thoughtful description of the work of rural anesthesia providers by presenter Dr Chelsea Sheffield @conference_CPAS2024.
Incredible program at #CPAS2024 meeting in Ottawa/Gatineau. This morning learned about racism & inclusion in academic pediatric anesthesia, anti-oppressive practises & how to be allies for indigenous patients.
If you have an interest in pediatric anesthesia please join us in Ottawa this September for our biannual scientific meeting. It is always inspiring, educational and fun! DM me for more information or check out CPAS’s website 😄. See you in beautiful Ottawa!
Me dropping off intubated patient in ICU after a long day:
RT: “How are you ventilating the patient?”
Me: “I’m just squeezing this bag In and out.”
RT: 🙄
Pediatric Anesthesia Pro Tip #99: Don’t ever hesitate to reach out to a colleague at another institution if you have concerns about a process or procedure. Circling the wagons is not how medicine is practised now. If something doesn’t seem right it probably isn’t.
Pediatric Anesthesia Pro Tip#98: Sit with colleagues of different ages/career stages. You’ll learn things you didn’t think you needed to learn! The coffee room is the Anesthesia Incubator.
You know you’re getting old when you get a repetitive strain injury of the thumb from scrolling to find your year of birth on an online form on your phone.
So I got a hearing test because I can never hear the surgeons’ requests in the OR. Hearing test was normal but there was a lot of wax in there. I’m in the clinic now to have them syringed and they put COLACE in my ears to soften the wax 🤯. Also the surgeons need to speak up 😊.
Pediatric Anesthesia Pro Tip #97: Not everyone’s going to like you all the time. That doesn’t mean you’re not a good person or a good doctor. It probably means you’re a good anesthesiologist 😄.

Pediatric (Cardiac) Anesthesia Pro Tip #96: Wait no more than 60 seconds after giving heparin to run your ACT. I promise those extra few minutes waiting will seem like an eternity when there’s no pulmonary blood flow.
