? for HS Math in traditional AGA: has anyone considered starting Alg 2 with Trig? Connect with Geo and use as on-level context to refresh Alg 1 as needed; I am done with spending a semester teaching Alg 1 again. #mathchat

Great discussion with powerful voices; one missing point in favor of the course: it gives stakeholders a common set of standards when determining the rigor of the course as Common Core and many states do not offer standards

Favorite quote from fascinating article: If it is the phones, they opened the gates on a well-documented, pre-existing phenomenon.

We expect more from the College Board. The proposed AP Precalculus is a misguided money grab with harmful impact on school mathematics. See our case in this open letter and, if so inclined, retweet and/or add your name as a math teacher for change: drive.google.com/file/d/1wAb…

As a Texan, I LOVE this!
Cards Against Humanity is donating 100% of their profits to the National Network of Abortion Funds if the order comes from a state restricting abortion access. If someone selects “I didn’t agree to this” an additional $5 donation is added to their cart. 😂

Step 1: Other competitive schools need to join Harvard Step 2: Information needs to pass down to students, families, and counselors Step 3: Data may change This is going to be a long process but hats off to Harvard for taking the first step

According to @kenpaxtontx, I don’t have to wear a mask to teach math but I should wear body armor and a semi-automatic weapon. Thank God I am free to not wear a piece of cloth on my face. Sarcasm hides the tears.

In all self-interest looking forward to the stories from the beautiful country that lets me live and work here
A new Global Math Story is on its way! Can you guess what country it's about? #RealWorldMath #MathIsEverywhere #GlobalMathStories

Easier solution: ban discussion of divorce in schools and in textbooks (hoping the sarcasm is obvious)

Pretending uncomfortable realities exist is always the best way to educate others…said no one ever
🚨6,000 pages of documents reveal what Florida textbook reviewers - including a Moms for Liberty activist - objected to in math books: Mentions of "grit," gender-based pay gaps, racism as correlated to education level and age. My report with @stefsaul: nytimes.com/2022/05/07/us/po…

I have some understanding of the sentiment for teachers to work absent culture and identity; HOWEVER, teaching (of any kind) requires relationships which requires sharing and respect of culture and identity.

Fighting the same battle with our college counselors as well; we made some ground but congrats on the success
At my school, enrollment in AP Stats for next year is around triple what it's been in past years. This is almost certainly because our College Counseling people have stopped telling families that having Calculus on one's transcript is critical.

And now I feel much more comfortable having ordered those very books to facilitate AP Stats learning next year.
My friend Dave Bock, a masterful and nationally renowned high school teacher of statistics, just informed me that his books have been banned in Florida. Learn more about Dave -- and his books -- here: savvas.com/index.cfm?locator…
