Great to see the opening of the Sydenham to Bankstown section of the metro. However, it would be good to know how much more the whole project cost as a consequence of the decision to use a narrower gauge. 1/n

Metros can be any gauge - Melbourne built theirs using their wide gauge standard. Using Standard 4’ 8.5” gauge would have cost slightly more for the new sections, it would have made conversion of the Epping to Chatswood line and the Sydenham to Bankstown sections much cheaper.2/n

There are probably similar costs with the Parramatta - Carlingford metro though I haven’t caught it and the original was single track. Really worth knowing 3/3

Just to let A Current Affair know you can currently easily book cabins on cruises from Japan to Singapore and Singapore to Australia - no need for a medical flight @PerthNine

I thought Hanson wanted to make it white. The only orange person I know is Trump.

Craig Kelly continues to peddle medical myths. But the facts are different.

So Josh Frydenberg reckons it should be the duty of the University of Sydney to police what slogans student politicians should be able to use. Would he propose the same for Australian electoral laws? What is the boundary.
It is completely unacceptable for the The University of Sydney to allow a student political group to run for council elections under the banner, “Globalise the Intifada”. This is an explicit term calling for a violent uprising against Jews by people who have made public their support for Hamas. The Bondi Massacre last December in which 15 innocent people lost their lives is exactly what ‘Globalise the Intifada’ means for Australia. This is a line in the sand. In the face of this explicit call for violence on Australian soil our Prime Minister cannot remain on the sidelines; the NSW Premier whose heart has been in the right place on these issues cannot remain too timid; and the University of Sydney Vice Chancellor who did not do enough to protect students and staff from harassment and hate after October 7 cannot remain in denial. It’s high time for our leaders to act with the courage, moral clarity and strength our country urgently needs. There can be no if’s or but’s. This move to normalise the dangerous and deadly term ‘Globalise the Intifada’ must be stopped. After the deadliest terrorist attack in Australia’s history and with a Royal Commission into antisemitism currently underway one would think there would be no need to bring attention to this issue. But the fact there is shows how much more work we all need to do to become more cohesive as a society and how much better our leaders need to be at upholding their first and fundamental duty to all citizens, keeping us safe.

So this bloke, Chris Luck, went dressed as Richard I to the Reform conference to “remind Britain what makes it great” saying the biggest problem was immigration. He wants a complete stop to unauthorised arrivals. @CroweDM 1/n

He obtained the title Lionheart in fighting to suppress rebellious groups in Acquitaine, one of his father’s French possessions. In the lead up Richard had been in the French court as the French fought Henry II. 4/n

The start of his reign was notable for a wave of antisemitic violence that was triggered by events at his coronation, though Richard did not endorse the violence and ultimately acted decisively against the leaders.

I think the general consensus of people around the world is that Americans can get fooled by a con man once, but to return him to power a 2nd time after having seen his corruption, incompetence, ignorance, & buffoonery, the problem isn’t just Trump it’s the American people.

Taking a photo of me isn’t an invasion of privacy- publishing it might be. As long as the data that the retailer associates with the image is securely retained entirely within the retailer and that the data is accurate, there is no issue to be addressed. theguardian.com/business/202…

Interesting to note that there are people calling on Australia to do the same thing. Meanwhile we have the outrage over returning ISIS brides. Clearly the best thing is to leave citizens’ rights to return intact AND be prepared to prosecute them for their individual actions. 1/2
Spain has banned people who served in the IDF from returning to Spain.

The meta-issue here is the question of collective responsibility - holding everyone in a group accountable for the actions of some. That is at the core of many Jewish complaints about anti-Semitism, holding all Jews accountable for the actions of Israel. 2/3

We need to eradicate from our ethics the concept of collective responsibility.
