#Egypt: The Committee for Justice (CFJ) expresses its deep concern over the continued uncertainty surrounding the date of trade union elections in Egypt, as the current trade union term approaches its expiry following a six-month extension under Law No. 74 of 2026. With growing concerns over the possibility of a second postponement, CFJ warns that any further extension, in the absence of exceptional legal necessity and clear, objective, and publicly disclosed justifications, could undermine workers’ right to freely elect their representatives and weaken the principles of trade union democracy and organisational independence.

The protests seem to be organized by Egypt's government. Protestors are bussed to the Dutch embassy daily. The forced closure of an embassy amidst a historic crackdown on independent journalists violate the MFA which requires progress on rule of law & human rights @EUinEgypt.

In an absolutely egregious escalation against press freedom, Egyptian journalist and @MadaMasr Editor-in-Chief @Linaattalah has been referred to trial on charges of establishing, managing, and operating a website without a license. Her trial is set to begin this Tuesday, Oct 27.
Egypt has jailed an entire newsroom and referred @MadaMasr Editor-in-Chief Lina Attalah to trial, in an escalating campaign to silence the country’s remaining independent media.

The news site @MadaMasr has been a light in the darkness of Egyptian and Middle East journalism for the last decade, and @linaattalah the shining star at its helm. Frightening and worrying that the authorities should be coming after them now.
Mada Masr Editor-in-Chief Lina Attalah was referred to trial on Thursday on charges of establishing and managing a website without a license. Sessions will begin on October 27, according to lawyer Hassan al-Azhari, Mada Masr’s legal counsel, who described the “haste” in the trial referral, which came just hours after the interrogation closed, and its scheduling for the coming week as “unjustified urgency” given the absence of circumstances in the case that require rapid resolution. storage.googleapis.com/madam…
