time to post the two maps again! China, a country basically the same size as the contiguous United States, built this much high speed rail in 12 years lol lmao
High-speed rail is ideal for a country like Japan because trains can travel from one side of the country to the other in a few hours.
Using the same technology, it would take over 15 hours to travel from New York to LA. America's urban centers are simply too spread out for rail to be a realistic mode of transportation in the age of air travel.
High-speed rail might work in certain parts of the country, like the Northeast corridor, South Florida, or California, but it will never replace the airplane as the primary method for traveling from one side of America to the other.
