In the name of religion and culture, extreme level of degradation is being witnessed in Vinayaka Nimajjanam in Telugu states. The Vizag Dance Group was seen “dancing” at the Nimajjanam procession in Hyderabad yesterday with a python and chicken. Young women/ teenage girls being made to dance like this has now become a part of the celebration. Python was added as a special attraction. The police tracked the group for five days and caught them last night. Greater Hyderabad Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GHSPCA) and Madhuranagar police rescued the python and a chicken from the dance group. Officials identified that the python was suffering from severe mouth infection and placed it under veterinary care. The python and the chicken were saved. Meanwhile, girls who are forced to eke out a living, dancing like this has been normalised. Someone the other day argued with me that these girls are at least earning a decent living, they can feed themselves…but no one will agree how utterly pathetic the government must be that this the only way a girl can lead a life in 2026! Also! No one takes offence that this is considered culture but will lose their minds and give sermons on how women should dress.
