Iâm currently working on a monologue for a theatre production and Iâm also working on a novel.
The common thread for me? Constantly figuring out how to âshowâ and not âtellâ.
As I continue (re)watching Rocky I, Iâm picking up on gems from Sylvester Stalloneâs screenplay.

In under 30 seconds, with just one little display of behaviour you get a huge insight into his character and it sets you up to wanna root for him beyond him being the âunderdogâ against Apollo Creed later.
Currently (re)watching Rocky, the first one and in the first 10 minutes what do I hear playing in Rockyâs apartment when he comes home from a flight?

This is crazy hearing the isolated guitar work that Raphael Saadiq and Spanky did on DâAngeloâs Untitled. Spanky doing his drippings with Saadiq dropping two layers of dirty guitars. Sounds like one was a sketchâ him figuring it out and then the 2nd was him locking it in.

Chopping drum-breaks 101: Beat-making has gone so far and is so advanced that sometimes we forgot to cover the fundamentals. This is a quick lesson in the fundamentals of chopping up a drum break to get different arrangements of it without chopping up each individual note and programming them individually. I sometimes use this technique when I feel like chopping a drumbreak too much will cause it to loose it's human feel. When you do it this way, using longer pieces, the break keeps it's fluidity and human feel in a way that chopping it into individual drum hits doesn't, in my opinion. I tried to do this slow enough on the MPC Sample that it can be followed by people who are newer or just curious about making beats. Hope this inspires somebody. Let me know if y'all dig it.
p.s. Shout out to my guy @robviktum for the drums from his new Heavy Artillery drum pack. Go support him and pick it up!

Hiring Tony Robbins today costs 1 million dollars for just one day.
This is a 21-minute tape recorded in his own home more than 30 years ago.
There, he explains exactly how to get anyone to say yes.
The same material for which they now charge a fortune... completely free.
It's a rare, unfiltered recording from the time when he still didn't charge millionaires just for being in the same room.
When someone says no, they give two excuses:
âI donât have timeâ or âI donât have moneyâ
Neither is true.
The real reason is that they still donât believe itâs worth it.
Itâs not a money problem. Itâs a state problem.
Tony teaches something he calls âattack and confessâ
Instead of arguing the objection, you confess your own:
âI had the chance to go six months ago and I didnât until two months ago.
I canât even imagine the time I wastedâ
The room goes silent. No one argues.
Then he gets the person on the âyes trainâ
Each little yes adds to the next.
Until saying no at the end feels harder than saying yes.
When itâs time to sign, the person has already said yes five times without realizing it.
Just 21 minutes.
There you learn the two only moves that people pay 1 million a day for:
how to read anyoneâs state⊠and how to shift it.
Most people spend years guessing in sales.
He wrote it on a flipchart in his living room in less than half an hour.
A seat in that room cost $125 dollars.
Today it costs $1 million dollars a day to sit in front of him.
The tape is free right now.
And the answer is in this video.
