Delighted to have this piece up with @mid_theory looking at contemporary boredom & White Lotus 🪷
For MTC, @harmlessfires thinks about boredom's potential both narratologically and politically. "Boredom is a universal motor and product of social being in capitalism, yet its formal make-up contains a (negatively felt) kernel of the future." mid-theory.com/2025/07/24/st…

Andrew Scott delivers this speech too slowly; I know some viewers will hate the way he breaks up the verse. AND YET even in spite of that I think this is the best delivery of this soliloquy I’ve ever seen. He makes it sound like it’s not a portentous speech everyone already knows but a morally serious real-time deliberation, by a highly intelligent person in extreme pain, considering what it would mean to end his own life.

Only one cover matches the edition I read, and the cover does seem important to the experience.

Brilliant list. Discovering 'Cuadecuc Vampir' was amazing on its own.

Annie Dillard has died. In our Summer 1988 Issue, she wrote about the "surprising letters" and gifts that fans and readers sent her over the years—a fossil fish, a marriage proposal, a check for $2.50, and, again and again, questions about God. yalereview.org/article/annie…
