While #HEBill is important, prioritising vital disability access within your universities would massively help students there.

As I barely log into Twitter anymore [I refuse to use "X"], I have began a BlueSky account. Find me there for cat photos, HE musings and disability activism. bsky.app/profile/hamsterxwhe…

We are immensely grateful to ITV Anglia for platforming disabled students. Our report does not operate on rankings but demonstrates strenghts and weaknesses across the sector. Cambridge respondents report the strongest sense of community but the weakest sense of support.
Cambridge University has been ranked the worst in the country for the support it offers its disabled students, a new report has found - with just one in four feeling the university had made the adjustments they required. Read more 👇 itv.com/news/anglia/2024-12-…

I'm very proud to have got 11% of the vote in Selly Oak. It's the highest Green vote of all the West Midlands @YoungGreenParty candidates!

Our new PM @keir_starmer pledged today outside @10DowningStreet that the @UKLabour government would treat “every single person in this country with respect.” Does that pledge include #Deaf people? Where was the #BSL interpreter as he addressed the UK public for the first time?
Deaf people have been left in limbo: we still don’t know if there will be a BSL interpreter when @Keir_Starmer gives his first speech. We have one here ready and waiting – just give us the nod, Kier, and we’ll help make sure your speech is accessible for deaf people.

Looking back on 14 years of the Tories is like looking back at the traumatising post-vindaloo shit you just did in the toilet.

📢 On average, disabled people would need an extra £975 every month to have an equal standard of living to non-disabled people. We asked the public what the government can do to help 💬

What can you do financially for #DisabilityPrideMonth? 1. Buy art, books, zines, etc from disabled creators 2. Contribute to crowdfunding - support disabled people DIRECTLY 3. Hire disabled freelancers 4. Follow disabled creators on platforms where they can monetize

Hats off to those in HE writing responses to this incredibly important consultation into future funding for disabled students - especially in the middle of Purdah, which prevents the government from making announcements about any new or controversial government initiatives...

Disabled parents, what are the best accessibility aids you use? I won't be able to lift my wee one soon due to their weight for example so I need to think about options for that #disabilitytwitter

This women has never been in that situation as that's not how it works. I've been in agony and rang 111, was told to get an emergency dental appointment - all of my local dentists [on the nhs 111 list] refused to book an emergency appointment. Luckily for me the pain faded.
ITV News has spoken to a patient who was in so much pain she pulled out 12 of her own teeth with pliers because she couldn't get an NHS dentist. 'Somebody in that amount of pain must always remember that if they need to they can go to their local A&E,' the health secretary says
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The NHS Accident & Emergency service does not treat dental patients unless there is a severe infection that could be life threatening by affecting breathing, swallowing or speech. nhs.uk/conditions/too…
