Pat Utomi is 70..... I won't describe him as an intellectual that has crossed his prime.. retirement age of a professor is 70 years in Nigeria.... When he said their party is targeting a strategic appreciation of the exchange rate by reasonably strengthening it from ₦1,350/$ to ₦500/$ to remove 140 million people from poverty ....he is contradicting himself.... When India and China removed hundreds of millions from poverty....They deliberately weakened their currency to discourage importation and encourage exportation.... Utomi is trying to do the reverse.... Artificially peg the Naira to make it stronger to encourage importation and kill the manufacturing sector....kill home jobs and plunge millions into poverty .... Naira was below N500 for 63 years before Tinubu became president....yet Nigeria grew to become the global poverty headquarter.... That was how the 140 million Utomi want to take out of poverty became poor .. It is clueless to want to use same method to take the poor out of poverty... Utomi need dollars to defend his peg yet risk running trade deficits that Buhari run in 4 out of 8 years... today Nigeria trade surplus could reach $40 billion in 2026... Nigeria non oil export that hovers around N1 trillion to N4 trillion under Buhari is now above N12 trillion under Tinubu... putting more monies in Nigerians pocket .. and more dollars to attract investment... Utomi is ignorant that Nigeria main source of income is crude oil..... If Nigeria sells $1 billion of crude today.... it get N1.350 trillion.... having enough to pay salary ...with states having spaces to fix Infrastructures... With Utomi N500 peg..... Nigeria get N500 billion.... if Naira appreciate by over 70%.... workers won't take 70% pay cut.... Utomi revenue could potentially shrink by over 50%.... and he and his one round undertaking president run the risk of not being able to pay salaries, Fix infrastructures and service debt..... Utomi and co can't strengthen Naira to N500 in one round without a peg.... because Nigeria don't have the economy to do so.....they are banking on Tinubu $55 billion reserve to do it... with a N500 peg....they will empty that reserve in a year ...and return Nigeria to the economic doom of the past.... Vietnam and South Korea have some of the least poor people on earth today with currencies of higher exchange rate than Naira.... It is Simplistic to think currencies with lower exchange rate take people out of poverty ..there wouldn't have been poor people in Ghana, South Africa and Libya... I watched Rochas Okorocha's interview yesterday, and I just shook my head. Rochas said Peter Obi is "a fantastic gentleman, clear in his head," adding that "there's nothing wrong with him." However, he immediately qualified his statement by saying that the South East cannot afford a four-year, single-term gamble and must instead focus on strategic political alliances. My question is, what is wrong with having a four-year presidential term? Is it not the intention of the Constitution for every President to serve a four-year term, which is only subject to renewal by the electorate if he does well? By the way, if I were Rochas, I should be in my room thinking very deeply about how I fell from the grace of contesting for the Presidency to dragging a senatorial ticket with my successor. Maybe Rochas Okorocha has not thought it through that the kind of grace Peter Obi is enjoying today was supposed to be his if he had positioned himself very well. At some point in this nation, many people were thinking that if the South East were to produce a President, it would be Rochas Okorocha. And please do not tell me to watch my tone, because our ruiners are not watching it when they allow all the impunities and corruption ravage our dear nation, while me and you remain the civil ones, that's no fair play. Those who sharpen their blade should not tell us to only sharpen our pencil, except it is to write how many blade we sharpen and how many enemies bled by it, we are loving people, but to maintain the love, there must be equity, fairness and justice.
