Over the last 2 years, AI didn’t just change my design workflow, it also changed where my attention went.
After reflecting on it, I decided to put it into writing (and drawings 😊).

Design at Shopify is having a moment. A big moment!
Incredible talent, and even stronger output.
So we gave it a home: Shopify.design

Not sure what's going on lately with search in Figma, or if it's just me, but the closest match is almost always at the end of the list... @figma why? 🙃😅
Last year I had the honour to close the @hatchconference. For those of you who couldn’t make it, you can now watch my talk on youtube.
Hope you enjoy it.
Check out @halfool_draws ‘s keynote last year, “The Design Process is a Lie” now live in our YT Channel

Last week I had the privilege to close the @hatchconference, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity. 🫶
A special thank you to all the kind souls who took the time to come chat with me after my talk, your words of encouragement and insights mean the world to me. 💛 – at Berlin, Germany
For those of you who’ve been asking.
Polaris v12 is here!
Shopify admin's new design language is now stable in Polaris tokens and components.
We've updated the Figma UI kit, design docs, and migration guide to help you work with v12.

Thanks for the love @HonzaTmn!
Polaris team released a new version of their design system and my favorite part is the page with their design principles for a new Shopify design language.
On point, using great language, actionable with examples for consuming designers. So well done 👏

The final talk at the @hatchconference was also its most beautiful one. @halfool_draws shares that the Design Processes are neither linear nor predictable but rather random and messy. Jose shared his own design journey. Sharing some stunning illustrations from the session below.
If you made it to #hatchconference, don’t forget to grab your print with my very egocentric illustration about the design process.
I love how it turned out.
Thanks @hatchconference ♥️

Every design team seems to succumb to low information density and high whitespace aesthetics even if the tool is mostly used by pros.
Glad we went the other way with the recent work on Polaris. Bring back tight and tactile UX!

All of our efforts below the surface had a compounding effect. We reached 86% mainline coverage in a year.
It took about 3 weeks to update Polaris with the uplift styles and ~86% of the admin changed automatically. 🎉 (the hard part was the remaining 14%)

We have a dashboard that tracks Polaris coverage across the admin. Once we hit 70%, we had confidence that we could start exploring a new design language.
@halfool_draws goes in deep detail about that process here: ux.shopify.com/uplifting-sho…
