Ultimately, DJing wise…most crowds I’ve seen haven’t had negative reactions to nearly as much as I see online. I have seen DJs play R. Kelly, and it’s rare that folks stopped dancing/singing along. Only time I saw that was the month “Surviving R. Kelly” dropped.

I saw one user on here speaking out strongly against Dr. Dre for his abuse, and calling out everyone who’s a fan of his. But….her background picture was of Chris Brown. Even with that, some folks have given Chris grace because he was 19 when the Rihanna incident happened.

I’ve seen some folks compare the crimes, and overall, most folks feel R. Kelly is the absolute worst because his victims were proven to be kids. Even with that, plenty of his defenders will say “yeah, but ___, ___, and ___ had sex with underage women, too. You gonna cancel them?”

Cancel culture with music gets complicated as hell because ultimately, a lot of folks pick and choose who they decide to cancel based on who they already did and didn’t like, how recent their actions took place, and how much evidence they’ve seen, amongst other things.
