One of the best-looking restaurants on Ilford Lane? 👀
Bagh has two floors with completely different looks, and downstairs seats up to 35 for a family do.
The lamb handi (£12.99) was the standout: tender, melt in the mouth. The mixed grill was a bit bland for me. 6.5/10.

Halal food in London, then vs now:

Best value lunch in Barking? 🥩
Cristina's lunch menu: steak frites for £11, and most burgers, wraps and curries are £8.
I go a lot as a local. Very consistent, and you can park in the Asda car park. Alcohol is served. 8.2/10.
Two restaurants from my very first month of reviews in 2013 are still open today:
Abu Zaad, Shepherd's Bush
Kervan Sofrasi, Ponders End
13 years in London's restaurant game is no joke. Respect 🫡
2020: a whole chicken meal at Chicos, £12.
2024: a half chicken meal at Chicos, £12.
Same price, half the chicken 😅
Still one of my favourite smash burger spots though.

Sunday roast plans for tomorrow? 👀
Mythéa in Walthamstow does a proper roast for £13.99: lamb, beef, poussin, sea bass, salmon or veggie. No service charge either.
The roast menu is halal, but alcohol is served. Visited anonymously and paid.
13 years ago today I posted my first ever review: Mint Leaf, back in October 2013.
Since then: around 1,000 restaurants, and still hungry.

Friday night, and you want a bit of theatre with dinner? 🔥
Sheer Khan in Enfield: the Jungle Mix Grill comes out smoking, and some starters are on par with high-end Michelin Indian restaurants in Central London.
The curries don't quite match up. 8.4/10.

Is this Central London's first fully halal Pan-Asian restaurant? 👀
NIU KO, a minute from Gloucester Road station. No alcohol, and very reasonable prices for Central London.
Get the passion fruit king prawns. The Malaysian noodles took me straight back to KL. 7.5/10.
2015: Honest Burgers, £7 with rosemary fries.
2023: £13–14 for a burger with a side.
Same place. Nearly double the price.

A new fully halal sushi spot on Holloway Road, with no alcohol either 🍣
Sushi Samurai is Muslim-owned: fresh, well-presented sushi at fair prices, a lovely interior and friendly service.
Nothing quite blew me away, but a solid 6.9/10.
Friday night smokehouse plans? 🔥
Just Meat started as a food truck in Waltham Abbey. Now it's a huge restaurant in Southgate.
It's where I first discovered burnt ends, and they get them right every time.
